I'll start off with the spec and reading from Asus probe....
Asus p3v4x mobo
256mb (1 stick) pc 133
PIII 800e (slot 1)
WD 7200 rpm ata66 hd
zip 250
pioneer dvd rom
hp cd-writer
32mb GeForce mx
real magic hollywood+ dvd dec
linksys efast nic
3com modem
sb live x-gamer
pcmcia card on ISA bus
os is win 2k pro sp2
cpu temp is 38c /100f
mb temp is 28c /82f
+12 is at 12.2
+5 is at 4.9
+3.3 is at 3.4
vcore is set in bios at 1.85 runs at 1.87-1.89
-5 is at 5.2
-12 is at 11.5
I put a new hs on the cpu slightly bigger then stock but has duel fans, added 1 case fan is front and 2 fan to ps. Had to disable "fast writes" in bios for any oc now im at 2x but thats another prob and i can live with 2x for now.fsb is at 124 and i can post at 126 no post at 133.Can run 124 and 126 in windows no prob but 126 locks up in any game, 124 will let me play but will eventually lock up, ram is set by "spd" in bios system/sdram ratio is set to auto. What can i do to get it stable at 126 ( little higher wouldnt hurt!) was looking at global win hs dont know if it will make a big enough diff as i think my temp is decent. If i need to post more info let me know. thanks in advance

What are your temps under load?

Is that 38C your idle temperature or max load temperature? Try checking the temperature while/ or right after running the 3D game. Try running the game and stop it before it crashes so you can check the CPU temp. I assume your RAM is able to handle more 133mhz or above, right? The problem maybe likely the CPU temperature being too high when u're playing a game. because your FSB isn't high enough, it is not your AGP chipset overheating or anything. Try set the Video card to default mhz too.

Hi Dazedncnfz, welcome to the Forum,
First of all I need to ask you if your Cpu temp is referred to full load (100% load) or at idle. Remember, the heat is your enemy, and the Cpu temps never must go above 45 degree C @full load and less is better, I suggest you to use MotherBoardMonitor that you can found at http://mbm.livewiredev.com/ to check it.
About the Cpu voltage (VCore), well, it seems to be right, coz just increased from the rated voltage of 1.65, 1.70 or 1.75v depending by the Cpu stepping revision (cB0, cC0 or cD0).
A suggestion for the HeatSink is around the Alpha Pal3125, the best but expensive, or the GlobalWin Vos32.
I hope it helps you ;)
P.S. sorry guys, I was typing during your posts :D respect!

Hi everyone thanks for the quick replys. those temp i gave ya were at idle temps at full load are quite different cpu 65c/ 149 f but mobo stays at 28c /82f. maybe i should go for that globle vos32.

Hi Dazedncnfz,
your chip temp is absolutly dangerous! you don't wanna fry your chip, but gain better performance, for sure you need of an improved cooler and of a thin layer of thermal paste on the chip core ;)
Way too hot. Smokin' hot.
65!!!
Get an Alpha Dual fan..
They have a nice one at http://www.coolerguys.com
Set your computer back a little to so you dont fry it..

Your OC is pretty much the max.... I have the same CPU cB0 stepping w/ Alpha P3125/Delta 38cfm fans about a week now running at 975, 512MB CAS 2-2-2. It used to run 945max on Tennmax HS dual fans. Not really a decent increase for $50+ investment on new HSF. But who knows, yours might do better OC than mine. Keep on trying higher, he he:p
Orang, this guy is on the verge of frying his CPU with those high temps and you're encouraging him to "keep trying higher." That's unbelieveable.

Dazed, you need to go back to default speed until you figure out a better cooling plan. My first guess is that you either need to reseat the heatsink better or you did not use thermal paste.
Batboy is right...going for 1ghz aint worth frying the chip over. Get a better fan setup and be happy with the mid 900mhz range. That's par for the PIII800. Aint nothin like frying a cpu! better listen to Batboy if you're on a budget!

Well its a slot 1 .. There are no basic good coolers at that mhz for the Slot 1 but the Alpha P3125...
So what will you do? Just buy a crappy cooler and most likely fry your chip out or have your 50 dollar insurance fan :)
Like I said turn the thing down abit ..
65 is big and your on the urge of frying your chip if you haven't already put the speed down abit.

You can get the Alpha 3125S cooler with 2 23cfm Sunon fans from here (http://www.kdcomputers.com/exec/categoryBrowse?m=20) and it will cool your 866 just fine with those fans. I'm using the same cooler and fan setup from them on this P3 1000E slot 1 chip on my BH6. It is quiet too. Be sure to use some thermal goop when you install to help heat transfer; I use the arctic silver 2. I've ordered many times from these people and they ship promptly. You definitely need to cool that hot proc down. Hope this helps you out.
I would recommend the Alpha P3125 w/ two Delta's ... The high rpm is obviously more turbulance and it'll help ALOT as well as they are already pretty good CFMers.

ok. i have clocked it back to 800 for now. my next question is everyone is saying get the Alpha but what about the GlobalWin VOS32?
If price and board space is an issue go with the Globalwin or the Vantec P3D-5030

BTW.. the compound im useing is that stuff from radio shack 276-1372a. Is that any good or get rid of it? Also space is not a issue with 4 dimm slots not to big of a deal to cover one up i read you shouldnt run more then 1.5 gig of pc133 anyway. muddocker that site has real good prices and 37 for the alpha without the grill i can handle. thats what im going to get. thanks
Generally, the silicon based Radio Shack thermal paste is fairly good. It's quite possible you didn't get it applied correctly or the heatsink was not properly installed. That's happened to me before.

Dazedncnfz,
I'm glad I could help you out with the link. That 3125 is an awesome cooler, I wish that I could get that much surface area on my t-bird system. They have a guy who posts at anandtech and hardocp goes by the name of FLOWERMAN that is actually using his 3125 with a 80 watt pelt successfully. You should have more than enough cooling with the YS Tech fans on it and it should still be fairly quiet.
Alphas can't be stopped in the air cool division. Nice choice.
Sweet buy man.. Alpha is a great choice

I wanna correct myself. The comp is running at 995Mhz and I only rely on MB temp-Abit BE6-2 rev. 1.2 w/ Alpha P3125 and Delta fans. around 34-37 C. I upped the core to 1.90v and at 3.70v for the other voltages or maybe the other way around...
I'm pretty much wanna see whether how far it can go before things break down. I've done it several times which made the comp won't post or win2k display the blue screen, and at one time I thought my graphics card 3dlabs VX1 was kappooot..
So here the deal, either you wanna try OC'it till it break down or satisfied with what you had. Not that nobody warn you, hehe:p

You can find your "limit" by just going to the max and run the hard burn-in programs like Sisoft, Seti, 3d Mark, and of course monitor your temps..

yeah..., but it would not be that fun, would it?
