Create two partitions on your HDD
Install Win98 to c:
Run XP setup in Win98 and install to d:
sorted :D
Sorry to sound like a complete fool, but how do you partition your harddrive.
Thanks P.

if you find partition is difficult, don't worry about it...........can you buy another hard drive...............and put int your computer..........you have 2 hard drives in your computer if you do that........
just install 98 in 1 drive and winxp pro in another drive.
problem solved..........
or you can buy partition magic 6.0 and try to use it to partition if you are not familiar with FDISK.......but backup your data before using this software first..............

You dont need to partition. I have win98se and win2k running off the same partition and it works great.

How is that done?
It's just done I've done that before it'll give you some message like "It's not recommend you have 2 operating systems on the same drive" skip that and go on...
Read some guides on Fdisk or other stuff really easy stuff to learn.

it's wierd to have 2 os in the same drive....it's interesting
But I do believe it can cause some problems, just to be on the safe side I like to have it on 2 Partitions.

can't agree more on this one
make sure you install 98se before you install XP
basically, without getting into detail, if 98 is installed after XP, then it erases files, adn therefor you get corrupted file messages
and by the way, no fdisk in XP,
must use disk management, much easier to use too
and put the operating systems on two seperate partitions, you will have lots of headaches if not
good luck
The down fall of partitioning a drive atleast in my experiences is it does slow down disk access time. Everytime you access the HD, windows has to read it as 2 drives before it can complete the task. My benchmarks were much slower when I used to partition my drives. I would recomend if you have a little extra cash to buy another HD. You will get better performance.
i definately agree with you, two hard drives would be better
but, if hes using 1 HDD, then he could have lots of problems if he loads both OS under the same partition
then again he might not
if he does partition 1 HDD, he can mess with the swap file and pick up performance
the ideal performance would be to have 1 operating system per HDD and everything else on another
i have no probs with speed
i run windows XP with 2 ultra160 SCSI Seagate Barracudas
15000 rpm Raided 0(striping) for performance
man its fast
good luck
