View Full Version : Is my x850 PRO doa ?
I just got a used x850 pro AGP from a respectable online company.
Anyways, I hook everything up - plug the 4 prong power cable from my power supply into it and everything.
I boot it up and it keeps saying that I forgot to plug in the power from my power supply ? WTF, I see the cable plugged in. The card is in MINT physical condition, not a scratch or anything. The 4 prong female power end is securly fastened to the board. Just to make sure, I used the power cable from my dvd-rom and still I get the message.
My PSU is 350 watts with 18A at the 12V rail.
Do you think it could be my PSU or do you think this card is defective?

Try reseating it and check the molex connector on the card itself.
There are a few posts stating similar problems.
Make sure the molex end is making contact with the plug and check to see if there
are lose solder joints. You may be able to re solder the connection to the board.
Or just RMA it.

I am thinking I might just RMA it but I just wanted to see if it might be my power supply so if i do get a replacement, it doesnt do the same thing.
The solders are in excellent condition and not loose at all. The molex connector prongs are also in great shape. All 4 appear to be making great contact with the power supply cable.
Who made the card and where did you buy it from?

interesting, my friend bought the same card from the same place and his wont boot on his comp but it will on mine, don't know why. sometimes he can get into the bios, but can't get to windows with it. (plus his card had the laser cut to the pipes we used a circuit pen to connect it but it still didn't unlock the other 4 pipes). And after doing all of that the card still won't post on his machine.
Do you know if it keeps telling him to plug in the power directly to the card even though it is plugged in?
Im having the same problem with my x850xt pe. I bought it refurbished from newegg. I *think* its a Sapphire, so I contacted their tech support, and they told me that its either a defective GPU or memory chip. But they never told me if they have seen this problem before.
If you can RMA it, I would say do it while you can. Good luck.

my friend fixed his problem by updating his chipset drivers :)
I would try that but I just sent the card to ATi Saturday. Wish me luck. I also tried the card in my Gigabyte 875P mobo, with the same error message.
yeah I RMA'd mine as well.
We'll see what happens.
I dont know if ATi will accept mine once they get it though. I emailed their tech support, and they sent me the RMA form, so I filled it out. According to their site they do accept cards made by their partners, such as Sapphire. I THINK my card is a Sapphire, not sure. I took off the Sapphire stickers to find the standard ATi cooler underneath. So well shall see. I told them it was a Sapphire, but they still accepted my RMA.

Well of course.
You need to send it to the manufacture.
If you were running a business could you afford to fix things you didn't make a profit on and expect to sustain over time?
