As the ATI website says, 2.4GTexels means 8 X Texel render which means 300x8= 2.4GTexels!
Pair that with 3ns DDR-Ram and you got a nice card.
The 8800 is a good card, nVidia has competition once again!
note: I know this card is workstation oreinted,,, yeah right, they just renamed the card and boosted the core/mem to make it beefy which makes it a normal card to me plus you can buy it at future shop in a few weeks.

Geez, it figures...
My r8500 is only 2 days old and already out dated..
heh I would recommend people waitin 6 months before buying a GeForce Ti500 or Raedon 8500.. Prices will drop dramatically and we'll see massive changes .

Oh boy! Just what we need! Another unfinished product from ATI! I would rather hear headlines about working drivers finally being released for the 8500 first.

Will ATI use universal drivers, like nVidia?? Looks like it's going to be a nice card, though, looking forward to maybe seeing one of these on Christmas day :D

Hardly, this is just riduculous, ATI is becoming Intel just floodingthe markey with crap that has issues and is unfinished. I mean fix the driver issues with the 8500 first and then startpumping out cards, in my opinion Nvidia has never hadcompetitoinfrom ATI, yes they card otuperorms it sometimes, but they have there name in the MUD for years about crappy driver, and cheating with drivers, not the way too get ahead in my opinion

From the FAQ:
Q1: How does a Workstation board differ from a game board?
A1:
When you compare the Fire GL™ 8800 workstation product to a high-end 3D game card the requirements and differences are substantial. For example, Workstation boards are used to create the models/environments you see in your games while game cards are designed to play the game.
While game requirements are focused on high frame rates “Play-It”, the workstation product needs to address the problems of working with very advanced & complex applications that simultaneously run in wire-frame and shaded mode with numerous windows and menus being opened or closed “Create-It”. Listed below are the some of the major differences:
Optimized For Superior OpenGL Performance
ISV Certification for greater Application Stability & Reliability
Application Customization for End User--ease of use
OpenGL Extensions
Dedicated team of workstation support & development engineers
Sounds like BS to me. Gamers would do well with this card.
This sounds like ATI's excuse to NOT lower the 8500 price.

well it seems that their current 8500s easily go up to 300/600 as this mark was passed by Default and Anandtech....

I don't know who came up with the rumor that the 8800 would have a 300 core, and 300DDR memory. It is EXACTLY the same as the Radeon 8500 except, it has developer features for making games, and rendering like Maya. If you play video games you do not need this card, if you create them you do.
It is targeted towards Nvidid's Quadro cards, which aren't meant for mainstream...
My Radeon 8500 is retail and is VERY fast..... Very nice card and very cheap too, only $380CDN. can't complain. I just want the drivers to be fixed!
Slick :)

hey slick306,
whered u get ur card?
im livin in the toronto area and have only seen the card priced around 499$.. for 380 bux ill pick that puppy up...
thanx
I learned my lesson after buying a GF3, then realizing it was only a GF2 Ultra in speed with bells and whistles that weren't even going to be used for 4 months anyway...
Pinky is a Technology junkie, but no one seems to care to ask why he doesn't have the best of the best video card despite having the money to buy it...
I'll wait until someone asks before I actually answer that ;).
