Hi i currently have an Asus Extreme en6600gt
500mhz core (Stock) 550mhz oc
1000mhz memory (stock) 1100 oc
which i have had for less than 4-5 months now, i currently play fps games and i think my fps has gone down from gettin 100fps to 50(averaging) i think this is a result of the fan being noisy than usuall(maybe bearings have gone in the fan)
is it possible to lose fps if the bearing in the fan has gone?
anyone got any ideas on how to solve my fps problem maybe with updates for the card or maybe you can help me mod it with a new fan (all i need is to no where to buy the stuff needed to do the modding)
so main question is would i lose fps if the bearings in the fan have gone?

It's very unlikely that your fan dying will lower your framerate. If you're overheating you'll start to see artifacts and you'll keep crashing.
The more likely reason is that you or a program you installed changed some of your settings at the driver level or game level.
Try reinstalling the drivers.

Here is a link to the drivers for the card.

You can replace the heatsink and fan. Finding a fan alone is going to be problematic because it's probably proprietary. You'll have to replace both. There are lots of options, you just have to do your research and find a compatible one.

could this be the cause of the 130-57 average fps drop because of this fan??
im really stuck here why have i lost so much fps
game framerates will fluxuate depending on the game and whats going on in the game. it is perfectly normal to have 100+fps in an area with little/no shadows, few charactors, no special effects, and little terrain detail but have ~40fps in the same game in an area with lots of shadows, charactors, special effects, and terrain detail. updated drivers may improve performance but will not eliminate framerate fluxuation.

If it's a fresh install of Windows XP make sure you installed all of your drivers (chipset, video card, sound card etc).
Make sure that all your settings (anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering are the same as before).
There could just be one program that's eating up a lot of resources that you installed. Make sure nothing is running in the background.
If all that fails, then reset your CMOS to defaults.
If you really want to find out weather or not it's the fan, then just take a regular 80mm fan and point it directly at the heatsink of the video card. I'm pretty sure it's not going to make a difference but if it makes you sleep easier then try it out.
