View Full Version : Presler 930 WR...again.

I doubt anyone knows (I barely did) that I've had the 930 WR and WR overall for non-XE Preslers for a while (5632MHz) on the single stage. I put it on DI tonight and increased that record a little more.

I thought I got a 5976MHz validation, but this was it. A tad disappointing just 69MHz away from the 6GHz club AND a 100% OC :( I tried *everything* to get those last 4-5FSB. I saw 6000MHz/400FSB countless times, but it just wouldn't stay long enough to validate. Boooo.

I've NEVER seen temps fly like that in all my OCing days! When DI doesn't have enough capacity with no load, that's some *seriously* hot stuff :)

Nice work Ross!

You don't happen to have the FPO/Batch of that CPU?

Thanks! That mean a lot coming from you ;) Actually, I have neither one of those specs, it's an OEM from TigerDirect that had none of that good info that the retail boxes have. It's the same stepping and S-spec as every other 930 out there right now obviously...the new stepping haven't been released yet. It was just serious luck on my part since they are all hit and miss for OCing.

Naa Ross.. you gots skills :D
Great job !!

LOL, that not good or it would be 6.0GHz, but thanks ;)

 nice work Ross

That sure is a nice chip ... but it is also quite a tease letting you flirt with 6 ghz like that but not quite giving it up :D

The FPO/Batch is also on the IHS, it's the last line.
For example, my 955 has L534B126.
These are not uniqe numbers, so it's no big deal posting them, but it would be interesting to see from which weeks they start to overclock this good :)

Duh, forgot it was there :) Ever since 775, I keep thinking that's a S/N because it's so much shorter than 478 #s. Malay, week 39 '05 L539B422.

I don't think that has anything to do with their OCability though. proth has had several since then. I know his last had a Feb. '06 pack date and was the worst OCer he had. It's just going to take some luck getting a good one.

but it is also quite a tease letting you flirt with 6 ghz like that but not quite giving it up You ain't kiddin'! I was SO irritated...I tried for at least an hour. Going to make some changes to the Icepot soon and see if it helps.

Congrats Ross...perhaps its time to step up to some LN2. :D

Perhaps it's time to step up to a Conroe :) LOL, my wife is just getting used to smoking piles of ice, smoking puddles of liquid might take some convincing ;)

My first 955XE (L534) barely did 6GHz with cascade, but this new one (L545) seems a little better, doing SuperPi at 6.21GHz.
Get LN2 and go for the 6!

Wow, that's awesome! High multi tho I bet? I'd love to bench a Presler >6GHz no matter what the multi in any case. I think a LOT of my heat is coming from high FSB. I mean I am sure a major amount is dual core, clock and Vc, but the FSB is probably just putting it over the top. I doubt I'll ever mess with LN2, but I'd really like a cascade that would hold -90C or lower evap temps, but they're big $$ and generally huge. I kinda like that I can use the DI whenever I feel like and just toss the tube in a draw when I am done :D

Except for the dewar...and getting it filled...and transporting it...and getting LN2 from the dewar to the tube. I don't think I can use a paper cup like I do with the DI or get LN2 from my local grocery store 2 miles away at 11pm like DI :D

Maybe one day, but not this month ;)

Nice job hows your IHS contact with the tube maybe a nice little lap job would get the CPU colder and allow you to break the magic 6ghz.

Thanks speed! Actually, my 930 has about the flattest IHS I've seen on any of them. Lapping might drop temps 1-2C, but the 930 needs a lot more than that :) I think I am going to try making some changes to the tube instead. It's actually pretty small as far as tubes go ~ 7.25" tall/2.25" OD/.1875" thick walls at the top and stepped in twice near the bottom for more mass. It works awesome on the single core, the 930 is just crazy hot at those clocks/Vc/FSB and temps are running away before I even get the clocks set.

I need to find a way to attach the SS to the tube and help it along, LOL.

Congrats Ross - now that's some amazing clocks on a 930! Ocing at it's best

BTW - you need some powerful SS in order not to warm up your container :p

Ross

Thanks Mike! Yeah, temps are just uncontrollable on DI anywhere in the vicinity of 5.9GHz+ and that's just idle. Even benching 3Ds at 5.45GHz it goes through DI like crazy. I definitely have a lot more respect for this SS though...it benches at 5.25GHz real well on it.

*You* could probably bench this thing at 6GHz no problem on LN2. Hmmm, Presler @ 6GHz with 400FSB...I definitely like the sound of that!

Damn Ross, thats awesome!! Just shy of 6GHz but still an amazing clock man. I more month for the price cuts and i'm getting one of these preslers! Keep up the good work Ross

Thanks dylskee! Yeah, I *might* try a 940/C1 stepping when they are readily available. Even though this one clocks well, I think the 15x is *just* a bit too much FSB for clocks like that. I'll definitely keep trying in the meantime though ;)
