Hi, I am about to go on a trip that will be 14 hours both ways. I need to be able to convert my quicktime and Xvid files into something that this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16855102209) player can use. Where can I find the programs that can do this? I would prefer programs that are free. The player comes with software to convert files but I do not know how comprehensive that software is and if it will work for my DVD files.

well i just started doing this and it has been really easy with avi2dvd, its a free program and it converts the files into something a dvd player reads. do you have a dvd burner? if so the demo for swiftdisc allows for easy burning of the files you created with avi2dvd, beware though to convert a movie on my 3.4 p4 takes about 3 hours.

I use boilsoft (http://www.boilsoft.com/) stuff for my converting and joining and such. It works pretty well but takes forever, as with every other video converting program I have used.

AVI to MPG Converter - Win AVI MPG Converter is also a good toy to use and can be found here (http://www.tomdownload.com/dvd_software/winmpg_video_convert.htm)

Thanks guys. One question though. Does the converter in sl1ckst3r's post convert DVD to AVI/Dvix? Because it says all to AVI/Dvix and I just want to know that it can before I buy it.

It says it will read divx/xvid, what other kind of avi files do you have? Converting codec's is a timely and cpu intensive proccess. I wouldn't convert everything for no reason.

As for DVD's you basically just need to rip them to avi, right? I'd use DVD decrypter to copy the disc, then VirtualDub *w/MPEG2 support* to convert it to divx/xvid/wmv.

For dvd ripping I use No.1 DVD Ripper (http://www.tomdownload.com/dvd_software/1st_dvd_ripper.htm), it rips and converts straight to avi, and it's pretty quick too.

I already have all my DVDs ripped to my server so DVD ripper would take longer. I'll try out Vdub and see if I like the results. I have been converting my Quicktime files for about 2 hours now and I'm not even half way through all of them lol!
