View Full Version : Overclocking nic's
Anybody know of a site where I can look up the average oc limit for various network cards? I've got 3 different brands/models currently. Not all of my machines have an overclocked pci bus. I'd like to know what cards to put where.

OC'ing a NIC? i've never heard of anybody trying that. what kind of gains do you get?
What I mean is does anyone know where I can cross reference the functional fsb limits for network cards.

touche!
wow, i dont think has ever thought of that(if i cant overclock my P3, ill overclock my network card damnit) its not too much of a fsb, probably less than the pci bus clock speed. i know isa is 8mhz, but pci? i dont know about changing it, go mess around with the drivers i guess, if you can.
In all cases that I'm aware of (I don't own every motherboard) the pci is directly dependent on the fsb, usually one third or one fourth. I just want to know at what speed will my cards crap out and what is their reliability limit.

eobard,
I guess I'll say something as I'm the only one who knows what youre asking, I guess. Cards I have owned:
1. 3COM 990 series TX with 3xp processor and 168 bit encrytpion (Server class) was withstood 155 mhz FSB.
2. Intel Pro 10/100 (POS) withstood 150 FSB.
3. Linksys LNE100TX V4.1 withstood 155 as well.
Hope this helps.

THANK YOU!!!!! Finally, to be understood!!!! I appreciate the info. Now, does anyone know of a site where many cards are listed? No offense Gabertooth but I want to have a whole lot of choices and I want to figure out how well the cards I currently have will perform, without swapping them in and out of my machines, that would take for ever.

eobard,
I hate to mention the name in these hallowed halls...err boards, but Tom's hardware did a review on a few cards...I don't remember if they had FSB speeds or not..but they did have more than a few cards. Hope it helps.

Going to look there now. Thanks again. :)
If considering a purchase I would just make sure any card you buy conforms to the PCI66 standard.:D
