View Full Version : ANyone get a game with their video card purchase?

When I ordered my 7800GT, I didn't know it was gonna come with a game packed in there, too.
When it arrived, I was surprised to see that it came with a copy of "Quake 4". I just started playing it today, and graphically it is very cool and my new system seems to handle it well. Its interesting though that I have been able to play quite a way through it so far with no manual, or any idea what to do, except follow the orders of the game, and only get killed twice. It seems like an alright game, (I'm on easy mode right now, just to get a feel for it) but some of the mission objectives seem a little lame...like going backward at one point just to get the medic to follow me back to an injured soldier, or again backtracking to meet with other team members. I don't have that much experience with shooters, but this game is nowhere near as difficult as "FarCry" was...for me anyway.

we bought some vid cards at work, and they all came with HL2. Since im the lead tech, and work doesnt need em, i kept one, and gave others to other techs :) boss didnt care. nice lil perk

wtf? Prince of Persia 2 kicked ass. Pandora tomorrow was a great game as well, although I would of expected a 660 to ship with something more recent like Chaos Theory.
I don't see how you can use the rolleyes smilies when you got two free A+ titles.

I've always wondered about this, when you buy a video card, how does the game come? Just the bare cds? Or like, a seperate retail (boxed) version of the game inside the vid card box? or even a retail copy without the box? never bought a videocard new, as you may find apparent.

i got hl2 with my 9600xt a real long time ago, it was a certificate for the preorder

and 1 coupon to unlock 1 of em. I didnt like any of em (for some reason brothers in arm didnt work in my pc or my older pc). I got it with my 800gto2.
To SOLIDxSNAKE:
It comes in the vid card box in a plastic cover or paper cover or something else.

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
Not a bad game in itself, but it didnt play nice with my dual core opteron, which really made it hard to play.

i remember my main reason for buying the 9800xt was that it came with a key for HL2 :D.

I had to buy FarCry. My 6800GT didn't come with a game, but I guess I got lucky this time. It was just the game disc in the little paper holder thingy in the card box. FarCry is a better game than Quake 4, even though FC is harder and pi**ed me off at times. Star Wars Battlefront II is better than Quake 4, but Q4 is okay.
I got America's Army and Soldier of Fortune 2 with my 6600GT. I don't really play either.

KING OF FIGHTERS '95... @ persia...
I got a coupon for HL2 when i bought an 9600XT awhile ago (cursed card..great game). I paid to extend it to a hl2 gold package but it was a nice discount. I also got CS:CZ, joint operations and a few other games with other vgas, sold most of them for 15 - 20$.

einstein2, now that's a deal! :D I'm playing Far Cry through again becasue I raced through it the first time. Now that I have a 5.1 sound system and a good high end system to play it on, it adds to immersing me into the gameplay.
I got Quake 4 with the 7800GT I got from Meionm, however I had already purchased the Collector's Edition of it when it came out, so I gave the copy to my older brother AMD Phreak. I think I'm getting another copy of it with the 7800GT I bought from ReD.Sky to, I'll probably give it away to someone who's got a system that it can run on, or use it as my "play disc" while my collector's edition is stored away in a safe place. :)

I got Thief: Deadly Shadows and Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising with my 6600GT. Thief was pretty boring and Joint Operations never worked.

I was going through some of the boxes in my closet and found my Leadtek 5700 Ultra TDH box. It came with Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Prince of Persia.
Then my 6800GT came with MotoGP, The X Threat and Commandos 3. I haven't played any games that ever came with my video cards, but now that I look at some screenies of X Threat, I might play it as I'm a bit space combat fan, minus the Star Wars series.

I got Far Cry,with my 6600GT (yes i do the 'DEVMODE' F3 Flying thing, its funny). Great Game but ghrr, it says i shudda got Far cry, Nascar and some other game, but i only got one, also, mine was the older model, and with a different cooler to the one advertised.

Mine came with Chronicles of Riddick. After installing the game and hearing the amount of cursing, I threw it in the trash can, after chopping it up with a knife, yeah, I was made that they sent me that piece of junk game.

How do you know which games come w/ which video card? I'll soon be in the market for a video card [$50 - $150 range].

My card also came with a couple of demo programs (something called "Beyond Media" and "Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3"), but I haven't installed them.

You don't...at least I didn't know when I bought it. The included game was a surprise, as was the clock speed. I thought it would be 460/1100...it was 470/1100.

If you read the reviews on www.newegg.com usually the customers will mention a game (7800-series cards usually come with COD2 or Riddick, etc.)

Nice, I've got the 64bit patch, the draw distance is like 3 times that of on 32bit.
