If it's Pin AF13, then it's a VCC power pin of which there are many others & it should work without it.

Yeah, kinda like the U-wire method done to get LV xeons more voltage, you could just drop a thin copper wire in the appropriate hole. Good luck

i took one of my 478's to a jewler, he lasered the pin back on, worked fine :p

Thats pretty neat, how much did the jewler charge?

that's actually a great idea!
and jewlers are usually very reasonable with services when your a regular customer (IE you have bought jewlery from there shop before)

Just drop it in, if it works it works if it doesn't then take it to the jeweler, which is an excellent idea BTW.

it was the first time he done it so it was on the house

Cool idea using a jeweler except I dropped the pin -----it's gone now :-(

Anyone know what the pin does that I broke and what is it's position ID

Tnx

Plug that sucker in and power up. If it boots, it's fixed.

OK HELP I plugged it in and it didn't work so I figured I had nothing to lose and tried the wire on the socket trick and it works I'm using it right now.

Now for the HELP call I need a pin to have this one repaired as I lost mine LOL does anyone have a dead 478 cpu I could get a pin from :-)

Thanks

Well it really doesn't have to be a gold plated pin. A 1/4W or 1/2W resistor lead could be used in place of the pin. Just try to get something about the same diameter.

thanks for the info but
I was hoping to have a jeweler reattach a pin to the processor and need a processor pin

proth knows what he's talking about, he was just letting you know that a processor pin isn't nessisary.
If by some chance someone has a proc. pin to spare that would be ideal though.

I thanked him for the info It was a great appreciated as I was trying to find something better to use besides the piece of twisted wire and the stiff solid end from a resistor will be perfect.
I didn't think that end piece would work with a jeweler lasering it on to the processor I was under the impression I needed the pin or a at least another pin to get it lasered on!!Maybe I misunderstood will any end piece of wire be OK to laser onto the processor

Thanks

you are better off trying for another pin.. would a p1-p3 pin work in place?

They are a tad bigger, mostlikely not going to work. Just get some braided wire and pluck one of the strains then drop it into the socked and hope it contacts the nub.

Remember processor pins aren't generally solid gold.
