Well guys, I have a dilemma. One night as i was walking out to my truck from a party, I dropped my external hard drive (a IDE 120 gig 7200rpm WD In a usb case) On the concrete. I get home and plug it in and its real loud, and it clicks. I will turn it off again, and the clicking will go away and I'm able to get into the drive. I have been able to get a few files off before it freezes. Its really ****ing me off. I have videos of my family from decades ago from now perished beta and VHS tapes that means alot to me and my parents.

Is what I'm asking, is there a program out there that would make data recovery a bit easier? I'm not quite ready to pay someone to do it just yet. I want to give it a shot beforehand

Thanks for your help!

The only problem with recommending software to extract those files, is that you are increasing the probability of having to send the drive away for professional data recovery. Software can't really help when you have a situation like you have, where there is physical damage (sounds like the arm mechanism is damaged). The longer you run this drive, the worse it gets, not better.

step #1- Construct time machine

step #2- Go back in time and slam the door on your leg causing you to forget hard drive in vehicle.
