I got a computer recently which was supposed to be a athlon 1.3GHz, when i got it was running at 1316MHz and the bios crashed and reset the CPU to 1266 at default.
Could it be possible that it is an athlon 1.2 (200MHz FSB) on 266 motherboard causing the extra 66MHz?
Asus Pc Probe system checker says that the cpu is 1200MHz
My motherboard is a Asus a7m266
Please help me, i am a clueless newbie :p
Go here:

and download wcpuid and run it.
Then post back with the internal clock, systemclock and multiplier the program shows.

WCPUID says this,
Internal Clock - 1312 MHz
System Clock - 105.03
System Bus - 210.07 MHz
Multiplier - 12.5MHz
if it was a 1.2 running at 266 fsb, it woul be 1596 mhz (12x133). The difference between the FSB doesnt get added on, it gets multiplied.
Your system should be 133x10=1330 For some reason, either your multiplier got changed to 9.5, or your FSB to 126, dont know why, but i would go into your bios to see whats wrong and change it back to 10x133.
sigh, posted at the same time........
so whats the problem??

welcome to the forums, spandex.
as i'm not familiar with your motherboard, can you tell me if it's designed to run as ONLY 100mhz fsb, ONLY 133mhz fsb, or both 100 AND 133mhz fsb.
if it can run both, you need to switch your fsb (probably by moving a jumper on your motherboard) to 133mhz and then have your multiplyer set at 10x. right now you are running the FSB at 105 (overclocked 100mhz fsb) and upping the multiplyer values. this is what is giving you the odd mhz rating.
did you buy the mb/processor yourself? or did they come prebuilt?
depending on your mb/processor you should have one of two things happening to get 1330 mhz. either 10x multiplyer and 133 fsb, or 13x multiplyer and 100mhz fsb. which one you use would probably be dependant on what the motherboard can do, what the processor is designed to do, and what your memory is rated for.
so if you could let us know those 3 things (if you know): mb fsb ability, processor fsb ability, and type of ram, it'd be easier to tell you which way you want to go.
also if you bought the system prebuilt, and it was shipped to you at 1316, you may need to do some checking as to why they would have done that.

Hi Rabid,
My motherboard can run at both 100MHz FSB and 133MHz FSB.
I had the system built by a company, I have been suspicious about the CPU speed since I got it. Im probably being paranoid, but it runs at odd speeds and they gave me the boxes and manuals from every thing in the pc except the CPU.
The type of ram i use is, 256 MB Crucial Technology PC2100.
Which of these is correct?
My bois and PC Probe say that the CPU is running at 1266MHz and WCPUID says its running at 1312?
Ive tried to take the heatsink and fan off the CPU to check the code written on it but the fan was impossible to get off!!

I've got that same mobo. You don't need to mess with the jumpers except for setting everrything to jumperless mode. If you've got the manual, it'll tell you how to change the jumpers. If not, I'll tell you what mine says.
After setting the mobo to jumperless mode, start up the comp and press del while the BIOS is detecting your drives. From there, find the system bus and select 133 MHz.
Good luck.

since I would like to get that program too, I went to that link then clicked on the download link and a message pops up saying:
You can not download it from your access point.
Your access point was prohibited
because other member did the dishonest operation.
and then 5 secconds later it will go back to the H. Oda homepage. Has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone know a way around it because I can't download it at all.

Same problem here. When I get my comp working, I'll try to find it with a google search.

I couldnt download it from that site either,
you can get WCPUID here

well, it was probably an OEM cpu, which wouldn't have a box. but if it is a retail AMD cpu, and they gave you the AMD stock HSF, you should be able to see a number or code on the fan sticker. this is amd's way to track serial numbers. if you are unsure, and your fan on your HSF is an AMD one, you could call/email AMD and ask them what exact processor you have.
i think you should follow what was posted earlier about setting the MB to jumperless, and going into the bios and manually setting your multiplyer and FSB settings. i would put it at 10x and 133FSB, if it can handle that, also be sure to check your temperatures so that you dont overheat when playing around with these settings.
and as far as which one is correct, i have yet to see a WCPUID be incorrect, but i've had a few bios'es that were incorrect. so my GUESS is that the bios is wrong.
