My 1.0ghz athlon died on me today.. i still don't know how it happened.. i got my new iwill k266 and put everything back together carefully in my system and turned it on lasted 20 seconds then died my sk-6 was spinning it was clamped down hard enough but somehow it burned up i saw smoke and just started screaming.. i didn't ever get to overclock it much :-( good thing i had a 800mhz duron laying around in a barebones and i slapped that in its running at 950 right now and im gonna try and push it to its limits till i get another athlon chip most likely at 1.2 or 1.4 i hope
what kind of chip should i buy?? i wanna overclock it as much as i could with air
Sorry to hear about your loss:(
A replacement CPU? If your MoBo supports the XPs then that would be the only choice. If not the 1.4GHz would be a solid upgrade.

Try to return the cpu where you bought it if that's possible. It could of been defective. A 1.4GHz 266FSB TB costs a little over a hundred bucks right now and it's well worth it's price tag!

Thanxs! demon_eater! It took alot of cash (like over $4Gs) and hard work to build and OC this baby. I couldn't bevieve that I was able to get this much speed out of an XP. I just hope it doesn't burn out on me any time soon because I do know that OCing cpus this much will shorten the lifespan of it. :(
