First, you download a client from here (http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html)
I would recommend the 504(beta) "No nonsense" text-only console. Don't worry about it saying beta, it's been out for a while and works perfectly. Make a folder called FAH(or whatever you want) in your program files(or wherever you want) and run the client. It will ask you what name you want to fold under, then what team(you put 32 there). Then is some configuration options, you want to tell it "no" to ask before sending/getting work, usually tell it "yes" for work units larger that 5mb, depending on your rig, then you can say "yes" to advanced options if you want to change any of those, such as advmethods.
There's a really good guide on setting options and flags and such here (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=444140&highlight=fah+setting+flags).
Or, you can find a much faster way here (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=231247) However, that uses the 502 version instead of the 504, but is much simpler for mass-borging.

and be careful not to delete the little boxes when you edit the CFG in notepad!!
ok, lets say i got an idea, what i need to do to join the team?
To start, go to: http://folding.stanford.edu/ and read their two paragraph description of what folding is doing, then click on "Download" on the left hand side of the page.
Choose 5.04 beta text console, and download it into the directory you want to have it work from. Nearly everyone uses either C:\FAH (or FaH if you like camelback cases), or C:\Program Files\FAH (or FaH ...).
Fire it up and it will take a peek at your system's performance with floating point operations, and ask you about 8 questions.
Under Name, you want to put your folding handle here on the team forum, and under Team Number, you want to put in 32. That's our team.
For everything else, accept the default. You'll be fine-tuning this later after you understand it more, and see how it works into your computer system.
The console program will start up as a program, in a text window, but just for the first time. After that, it will be a service (ie., it will run the program in the background - you won't even be noticing it (ideally), unless you want to.
The console program will handle the actual folding "core" program, that does the folding. Different proteins need different core's to simulate their folding.
This is a scientific program, so it's not going to be an intense thrill-a-minute kind of thing. It's a marathon. Ideally, the folding should be fitting into your overall computer use. The console can be stopped by clicking on "Start" button for Windows, and typing "services.msc" in the run window. Scroll down to the FAH console (not the core), and click on the "Action" tab with the console selected. Now scroll down to "Stop", and the console will close.
You'll probably have a lot of questions. Please ask away, and peruse through the Stickies. Wedo has a one click installer that I have heard good things about, up there. Never used it myself.
Welcome to the O/C Team! :welcome: :welcome:

P.S. The graphical client may look more interesting, but later, we'll get you clued in on a nice monitor that will draw the protein you're folding, if you wish, AND the graphical client has a problem of "hanging" up because of a bug in the Open GL library that it uses. WttW, use the text console, 5.04 beta.

I just saw your post over in the general hardware section, make sure you get that rig folding too. I know it's not much, but I even have a 350mhz p2 folding. Right now it's taking it 12 days to fold a 239 point tinker lol. But it's better than not getting those extra 239 points for the team.
*Edit: And for YATTA :p

guys i don't think a console only version is a good idea for a beginner. I think Wedo's One-Click would be better: http://www.justa-larrkin.com/folding/OC-FAH502-ADV.zip
just extract the files somewhere and change the username in the .cfg using notepad to whatever you want to use. Then save the file and run the .exe. All done!
Also, if you don't want anything remotely complicated, just use the graphical version: http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html As long as you don't run it as a screen saver, it folds just as well as the console. It's also ideal for getting people started who aren't technically inclined.
:welcome: to T32 erusfatum :)
personally, I think the console version is better for some beginners ... but maybe not all.
If you want to see what is going on with your folding client, it is much better.
If you just want your rig to fold and not worry about what is is doing then the service option is better.
Changing stuff on a rig running it as a service is more work and more complicated. If you never need/want to change things, service is simpler.
Whatever you go with, you can always switch between console and service later. It is not difficult ... and as you can see there is lots of willing and able help here!

If you want an easier way to edit that client.cfg file... try metapad. It reads unix style files just fine. Much easier to deal with.
