I BOUGHT A NVIDIA VIDEO CARD. ON NEWEGG IT SAID IT WAS A GEFORCE2 GTS. WHEN I TOOK THE HEATSHINK OFF IT HAD GEFORCE2 GTS AND ON THE SIDE IT HAD THE WORD PRO. WHICH IS IT? THE DEFAULT SPEED IS 200 CORE AND 333 MEMORY. IT IS A MSI STARFORCE 820 32 MB DDR.

from the ram specs it sounds like a GTS....however check the Ram Chips itself and see if it says EliteMT -5T on it if so it should be jsut an underclocked pro...

That setup is a GTS setting!

THEY ARE SAMSUNG MEMORY CHIPS.

alright do they say -5T or -6T on them? (sorry i thought MSI used EliteMT as well)....

BUT I DONT UNDERSTAND. IF ITS A GEFORCE2 GTS THEN WHY DID IT HAVE A PRO CHIP IN IT? I TOOK HEATSINK OFF AND IT WAS A GEFORCE2 PRO CHIP. I CANT UNDERSTAND THAT.

hmmm, try getting powerstrip and see if the memory can run at 400 without artifacting....if it can then you have a Pro.....

My asus v7700 pro has gts,pro and pro pure stampings on it so dont go by wording its the speed that counts.

so I have v7700 gts pro pure 64meg ---- lol

They probably just made ONE type of chip.

Then it depends what they add to the video card or what they enable on it for what type it will be.

the chipset they use in the gts and pro are the same. Like Robbie said it's just what they add to the card and the clock frequency that's different!

Bought an MSI Starforce 820 yesterday from a local place in Toronto (I prefer buying locally to online for my own hardware) and I noticed something interesting -- the spot on the retail box that has the RAM speed on it has a sticker over it. The sticker reads 333, but if you are careful and peel up the sticker -- surprise! The area under the sticker reads 400. That would put it at Pro speeds. I wonder if the ram on this board is 5ns that they had to re-label or if it is just a mistake.

Anyone else notice this?

I think the whole problem stems from your caps lock key being stuck!

im not sure anymore but i readed somewhere once that nvidia was adding that "pro" description on the chips, and that it was supposed to be the geforce2 pro gpu, not the gts, or intended to be implemented in the geforce2 pro video cards at least. and the memory speed wont let u be sure about this once manufacters have used different ram timing.

The GTS is a family name, yes there is the GTS and the Pro, but the pro is a GTS gpu, just clocked differently and might have a few hardware bits enabled that the GTS doesn't. I'm not sure, but I think the pro and gts use the same gpu, so most likely nvidia just prints pro on them all to keep costs down from having 2 printing processes...who knows.

Itsn't the pro a step up from the GTS? like a few more mhz on the core? If thats the case, than it might even be visible proof for you that you'll have a decent oc out of it..

Mike
PS Can you tone the use of caps down? thanks!
