I have some ideas for some software for Rainmeter. Its a skin really. If you are unfamiliar with Rainmeter i would check out this site. Rainmeter (http://www.ipi.fi/~rainy/index.php) The fun thing about this program is it can do a number of different things. I have a skin that gives me all the cpu info i need, such as temps when its tied into speedfan, plus the latest and greatest news from engadget and Anandtech as it gets posted to their site.... Now this is where the OC forums comes in!!!

Now i have no idea if this is possible or not, however i would love to be able to see if one of the threads ive subscribed to has a new post on it or not. So if these news websites have some way of porting over the info, i would think you could port over the subscribed threads from each user. Would have to give directions on how one would have to put in thier own account information in the cfg to be able to access that info. Now again, im not sure if this is possible or not, but i know I would love to have that info at my fingertips on my desktop.

Just an idea/rant

P.S. If you want to see what i mean. Here is my desktop with everything labeled. www.filelodge.com/files/room10/249218/My%20current%20Desktop.jpg

THREAD REVIVAL!!!

Jump forward a few years, and another OCF member comes along with a potential answer!

I've been working on a rainmeter desktop myself recently (see this thread (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=580847&highlight=rainmeter)), and I may have a solution...

You can make/edit a skin that displays simple RSS feeds (link/description). The only missing link, is when you hit "User CP" --> "Subscribed Threads" ... That's the info we want to display... but can this page be converted into an RSS feed?

I'll spend some time on it and see what I can come up with...

woohoo!!!!

SEMI-SUCCESS!!!

The attached screenshot shows my desktop with a new RSS feed of new posts anywhere in OCForums (using the following: http://www.ocforums.com/external.php?type=RSS2).
I started with some simple edits to a skin created by Kenz0 (http://customize.org/rainmeter/skins/52686)- props to that fella!

Of course I've got to do some tweaking to make it match my simplistic theme better... but it's a solid start! If someone knows of an RSS feed link that displays only your subscribed threads and not simply any new threads, that would round up the concept and should be simple to implement...

I'll be sure to post my results for others to use once i'm finished =)

(PS the new skin is located to the left of my weather feed on the desktop)

WEEHAWW!!!

Okay i've gone and done it. Behold ye mighty OCForums RSS feed skin for Rainmeter! Following are screenshots with it in action. It updates itself every 90seconds (easily editable if you wish). I've tweaked the kenz0 skin to match my own theme and aesthetics, while making it all work with the OCF RSS page.

I'm aware now that there are more than a few RSS feeds available, for various sub forums, and it's as simple as chaning a single line in the skin file to match the appropriate RSS feed (in fact, it's universal and works with non-OCF feeds as well).

If anyone is aware of a "subscribed threads" RSS feed of some sort I'd love to hear about it. For now what I've got just shows the most recent threads throughout the forums.

If anyone wants me to share this work or answer questions about rainmeter just gimme a holler =).
