Hey everyone. I just used coolbits to overclock this card to 490\1.4. Is this too high of an overclock for this card?

It's probably a little high for the core (most people on air are getting around 470 here without any problems), but for the memory it's probably a bit low actually. I as well as a lot of other people with 7800GS's have been able to max out coolbits memory bar and still have plenty of room to oc. I was able to get another 110mhz off of mine before i started running into problems.

I recommend using rivatuner to overclock. In order to use it with the 7800gs (because the program does not recognize it) you will need to do this:

Open RivaTuner.cfg ( You can find this file in RT's folder) with notepad.exe.

In [GPU_10DE] section, you will see " NV47 = 90h-9Fh" , add " , F5h" at the end of this line . Then it will look like :" NV47 = 90h-9Fh ,F5h".

Tell us of your results! Good Luck!

Get coolbits and use the "detect optimal frequency" button. THen run 3D Mark 05 and 06 a few times, play some games and see if it is stable and if it artifacts. If it artifacts or is unstable, back it up a little.
