My friend that's been playing Oblivion on the 360 has been having some problems as of late. Keep in mind this only just started when he picked up Oblivion and moved his 360 up to a different room (ironically into a more open ventillated space). Sometimes when he goes to turn it on a quarter of the circle on the power button flashes red and this screen pops up with E 74 at the bottom.

He asked me to try and figure out why this is happening. He doesn't want to have to send it back to MS and have to wait for months for them to fix it and send it back. Does any one have any idea what this error code stands for? I've been googling the hell out of it and all I have found are people experiencing the same problem but no solution or idea as to what it is.

Keep in mind this only happens after it boots up after being left off for a while, and when we give it a minute and restart it everything works fine.

Ask and ye shall receive:

Unplug your AV cable, plug it back in and then check to make sure the slider switch is all the way to the left (SDTV) or right (HDTV) depending on which you use.

also try this:
Reset Xbox 360 video settings
While the Xbox 360 is starting up, hold Y and Left trigger. This will cause the system to reboot and reset the video settings.

If this doesn't work, call Microsoft and they'll arrange for you to get a new(or refurb) system.

Hint: Keep the Hard drive and wireless controller and you'll get another for FREE!!

Forgot to mention: If you moved the 360 with a game in it then that was a bad move (but you didn't know any better). On the 1st wave of units that were produced the disc would bang the hell out of the laser and transport unit thus damaging it. NEVER move the 360 with a disc in it.

Can't help you on the code, but from personal experience, if you have to get it repaired/replaced. They overnight you a box, which has overnight shipping paid for back to M$. They take 3-4 days, then overnight back. Barely a week of down time.
