ive oc'ed my p4 3ghz to 3.4ghz and everything ran fine apart from when i run the cpu test in 3d mark 2005 , the program crashes all the time usually midway through second cpu test and it only does this when overclocked to 3.4ghz , it runs fine through tests at stock and 3.25ghz . im using 'Hmonitor' and this shows the cpu temp as ok and at full load it reaches 50'c which is well under afaik. could the vcore be to blame , i.e should i increase it to get stability? or am i at the limit of my cpu?. are there any good programs to test my cpu properly?.

prime95 will test stability...

as far as your issue, it does sound like either your vcore needs to be bumped up a little bit, or your RAM is having issues (make sure its not running at speeds that are too fast for it)

ram should be ok , its spec is for ddr 500 and with the cpu at 3.4ghz it clocks at 227mhz , potentially it can go to 250mhz as long as all the delays etc aren't too aggressive so i figured the same as you which was the cpu has reached its limit at 3.4ghz for the stock vcore voltage , ill try bumping it up by a little bit on the core and see what happens :)

ok im not sure on this but ive just increased the vcore to 1.4125 from 1.4v and restarted the computer , when the machine first started up the voltage was saying 1.45v on hmonitor , now im running prime95 its dropped to 1.38v?! is this normal while the cpu is under load? im not too clued up on the voltage side of things so any help is much appreciated

ok scratch that and read this :D http://www.abxzone.com/forums/printthread.php?t=49880&pp=50

kinda answers my question i think
