I saw on a website that they were selling a drawer that fit into a 5.25" bay. Good place to store CD's, Floppy's, whatever. I didn't want to spend any money so I went to the local computer store and ask if they had any dead CD players that were headed for the trash, got one for free. Gutted it, fashioned a drawer to fit inside out of plastic, epoxied a face plate on front. Looks great. I used a pressure switch on the back (the kind they use on stereo cabinet doors) to open the drawer you gently push on the front of it and it springs open. I thought it was a neat idea for something different.

hmmm,that gives me an idea.I have an old cd rom i dont use,i wonder if i can rig it into a drawer and use the motor so that you just push the button and it slides out.I will have to take it apart this weekend and see if i can do it,that would be sweet

The website that I originally saw this at was multiplaycity.com, a link off of virtual-hideout.net. I've been back there a couple of times since and I can't find it there any more. It was real easy to make though. Go to your local computer store and ask for a dead CDrom that's headed for the trash. More than likely they'll just give it to ya. Computer Renaissance would be a good one to ask. The model of CDrom I got was a Sony and it worked really well cause the drawer is actually the case inside that held everything. All I had to do was to gut it, do a little filing, and glue the front on.

Just a note for you. DONT PUT FLOPPIES IN THAT DRAWER. It's just above your MAGNETIC floppy drive and the floppy disks contain MAGNETIC data. Those two don't mix too well when the floppy isn't sitting inside the drive.

put an LED on the front of the drawer inside that would make you super sweet mod even better.
