Hi guys (and gals =)
i was wondering if it is possible to control your case fans by software. What i want is for my case fans to turn off or slow down when i am in windows and my cpu is idle, so when the cpu temp or case temp went down to a certain set level, my noisy case fans would shut off or slow down, and when the temps started to rise they would come back on
so basically what im asking is there any way to control the fan headers on my mobo from windows? and if there is, is it even economical (for lack of a better word) to do so? example:
my case temp drops below my set speed, and my fans turn off, and because there is no circulation, they need to turn on again in a few mins....so can i just control the power they receive instead of on/off?
thanks for the input
btw, i have 1400 tbird on an abit kg7....and windows2000

don't know if you know much C++, but i have heard of people writing programs using the language to do similar things.

but, i think you might also need some type of hardware to go along with it,

not sure though

i remembered reading an article about a guy who did this

i will try to find it and let you know exactly what he did

later and good luck

make it easy on yourself and do the 7volt mod

get switch that can do 3 things(forgot what its called) and wire it for 7v/off/12v

thats what I did to my high speed 80mm and 92mm fans and you can hardly here thim now and makes only a 2-3 rise in case temps

You can also use a compunurse (or maybe it was a digital-doc..maybe both)...they monitor temps and adjust fans according to your specs. I'd look into those. :)

Here (http://forums.procooling.com/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=8&t=000246) is a thread about using the SM bus to control fans and temp sensors in your computer. Might be worth a look into.

Digidoc 5 will do it all for $60 if it's worth it to ya, but other than that do the 7volt thingy...and it's a DPDT switch that you need.
