View Full Version : Headsets keep dying? Why?

Well this is about the 4th or 5th headset I've gone through this year. I was using a cheaper logitech 14.99 one that was at walmart for the first 3 or 4 times, then I figured "You get what you pay for". I shelled out 40 bucks for another logitech "Premium Stereo headset" and it seems to be dying already.

I'll be playing a game or listening to music and the headset will start to crackle/fade out in 1 ear or lose bass in both. This is about the time I go out and buy another figuring it was just a bad headset. Wiggling the connections seems to help but the headset has never been yanked. Why the hell do these things keep dying on me?

I've upgraded soundcards so that rules 1 thing out, but I'm seriously getting tired of replacing these things every few months. Hell I bought this one in late Nov right after BF2:Special forces came out. Any ideas before I start to look for another headset?

And while this topic is started any good recommendations on a headset I should buy? Mind you I play a LOT of BF2 (Leader of a clan) and I need a headset that will compliment this game nicely.

I am not familiar with htose, but you are correct in that you do get what you pay for. I bought a Sony headset several years ago for around $100 and they are still going strong. Also, the gamer types of headsets with built in microphones just seem to be made more cheaply.

Read a few reviews on these in the forums and people seem to like them a lot. I'm just afraid they are going to turn into my logitechs and die after a few months and I don't want that :(.

Your problem is probably due to cheap wires in the headsets breaking or possibly a bad solder joint. You may be able to open them up and fix the connection but it's probably not worth it.

If you want a good headset, look for some with thicker wires, strain relief (that rubber grommet that goes up the wire a little ways from where it plugs in), etc. If you can find one with a removable cord on the headset, so much the better.
