I just joined the Folding team. I had previously been on SETI, but while the server was down I decided to start folding. Now, I have got it installed and I joined team 32 :) But it's working now and says that the WU I'm on will be completed Feb. 2, 2009 What is that all about? 3 years to do one unit? I know my computer isn't the greatest, but it is not that slow.
A64 3000+(Oc'd to 2.6)
2 GB ram
that's all that really matters.
Give it a little bit of time, it should adjust the time. :)
Btw, which one did you download.? graphical or text console?

welcome! :welcome:
I am guessing that this is what it says immediately after starting? Basically the work unit will need to complete a couple "frames" before an accurate time can be estimated. It can take anywhere from a few seconds for a frame up to an hour, maybe even more, depending on what protein you are working on. Give it a couple hours and see if it hasn't changed.
It's great to have you with us!
Oh, did you make sure to put in team "32"?
also, once you start turning in work units, you will get a pretty stats page here:

for example, here is mine: http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=83595

That is a heck of a lot better than my computer and mine can do a WU in just a few days. :p
:welcome: striker, :welcome:
You have a fine computer for folding. It won't take weeks, let alone years, to complete your work unit.
Good to see you on our forum. :D

So the time updated, but it still says it will take 3 days to finish my first WU. Geez, everyone else is saying "ive been folding for an hour and I've already done 2 WU's."

What is the protein number? Some wu's are just big and take a while. I have had a couple recently that take up to 3 days on my 2.66 prescott @ 4260.

Most of my recent work units have been taking 1-2 days (on the rig in my signature), but every once in a while I'll get one that takes a few days or so. Those big ones usually give a lot of points though, so it's all good :p

I see. I guess I'm just used to SETI where a job takes a few hours max.

The only WU's that complete in a few hours are ones that Early_UNIT_END ie. can't complete sucessfully.
The fastest successful completion for a Wu worth good points that i have seen is a 1481 which flys with the 920's 2M cache - the 920 which is a dual core running 2 folding instances can finish 4 a day. Sadly, it is lucky to get a 1481 every 20 days since that project is winding down.
Another great WU was the QMD, of which there are none atm, and only run on p4's, most of my p4 could finish 1 a day.
Both the 1481 ans qmd had high bonuses with them due to their size and need for memory.
There have been some very small gromacs (56 ptrs) that also finish in less than a day.
But most of the wu's around these days take over a day, and some can take 2-4 days depending on the rig.
The WU mix changes over time.

I'm getting a bunch of 1481 on my northy rig @ 2.85ghz, but I have only seen a couple on the one in my sig :(
BTW, isn't each instance supposed to ay 100% on a DC rig?
What would i do for a steady supply of 1481's :santa:
Although, overall for my p4 farm QMD's were the best since they were pretty much guaranteed.
But it is about the cause ... so we just fold with the Wu's we get :)
