View Full Version : PowerDVD stuttering?
Ok, I have had PowerDVD for sometime, and after my most recent reformat, all my DVD's have started stuttering at random points. When I say stuttering, I am meaning the video seems to lag for a second, but the audio keeps going strong. All my DVD's are spotless. at most maybe a bit of dust that gets blown off before playing.
My drives are
1) Lite-On 52/32/52/16 CDRW-DVD combo
2) LG 4163 Dual Layer DVD burner.
They are bolth IDE, and bolth work flawlessly with anything else. But for some inexplicable reason, PowerDVD, or my Computer, just seems to have issues with them.
Now I do recall reading a good deal amount of time ago, about the 6800 series of video cards having poor video playback. Never heard more then that. Could that possibly be my problem? And is there a workaround or fix for that problem if it is the case?
Make sure they are runig on Ultra DMA mode=Star->Right Clik my computer->properties=System Properties->hardware tab->Device Manager->IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers->Primary or Secondary IDE Channel->Properties->Advanced Settings->Transfer mode->DMA if Avaible

Or press Windows+r and type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. Expand IDE controllers, then right click on each channel and select properties, then the advanced settings tab.
Yep, they are all set to Ultra DMA.
Any other ideas?

What codec packs have you installed, and what happens if you remove them? If removing them doesn't allow your DVDs to play, reinstall just powerDVD and then observe performance.

Shouldn't be video card-realted. I just noticed this happens on my Ati 9700.

Its FAR more likely that its a problem with conflicts in the gordian knot pack you installed... I would uninstall gordian knot. And reinstall the DVD player then you should see the problem disappear. If that fixes it, you can then either try reinstalling gordian knot, or trying another popular kodec pack... Like Nimo's Codec Pack, TheCodecs from Theorica, or the k-lite codec pack.
This is a software problem, not a hardware problem. You might also try updating your video drivers, which wouldn't hurt, but I don't think this is the direction you should be looking in - I blame the codecs.
