Hey guys, after about a year I decided to try and overclock my Geforce 6800. I got an NV5R3 and installed it, but i'm having some problems.
First of all, the average temp on idle is 47c. Not sure what the load is, but I haven't played any games since I installed it last night, but my brother says it's doing fine.
I decided to try and overclock today, and I raised the core/memory speed by 10 mhz and ran the Nulu demo from nVidia, and got artifacts about 3 minutes in (little black cut-outs every now and then) so I quit it.
Now, this really bothers me. I want to know if my heatsink is working right.
Firstly, I don't have the passive memory cooler on. The problem is, I tried to stick it on, but the passive memory cooler does not go down on the videocard. There are pieces for the videocard that keep it from going down correctly. Also, there are conviently placed holes on the videocard AND memory cooler, but this NV5 does not include the nuts to screw it in. What's with this?
Second, should the end of the heatsink that pushes hot air out of the PC through the PCI slot be out as far as it can? I have the PCI slot cover in that they provided, but I don't feel much air coming out of it. I get the feeling that since it's about an inch away from the PCI cover, is not blowing air out of the PC. How close should this thing be?
