along time ago(around christmas to be exact) i was hoping to get a new rig from my parents(didnt work out but Irrellivant) i put a rig together and being a noob in the cpu oc world, i sought out the fastest (in ghz) intel cpu i could find. and on new egg i could sware i had found a pentium EE that ran 3.73. and now i cant find it anywhere except ebay. anyone on the forum have this cpu? i was just curious what you could push that lil intel to. stock at 3.73 pushing it to 4 i dont think would be a problem.
Thanks guys.

the 3.73EE single core is a nice cpu, though i'm not sure if its worth the $1k price tag.

You'd probably be better off picking up a 2.8g 920, or a 3g 930 (dual cores), as they'd be more bang for the buck.

You were probebley looking at the new P-DEE that runs at that speed
here is a review http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/03/22/pentium_extreme_edition_965/

I would not spend extra money for the EE it's not worth it, you would be better to just get a normal p-D.

yeah once you get up to the 600-1000 dollar range you are basically wasting your money as chips priced at 300-400 are so close to it its stupid, and singe core is also outdated by dual core so personally i would wait for conroe unless you absolutley need a computer right now

The newer EE are actually better with the 4Mb of cache, but older ones are pretty much ripoffs for overclockers. Either way depending on your cooler you should be able to go a little past 4.0

actually if you are looking for the absolute fastest chip in terms of clockspeed, get a 570, or 670, or 671 when they are released (if they aren't already??). those chips are at 3.8ghz.

realistically tho, the other suggestions in this thread for a 920 or even a 641 or something would be more suitable, and most likely overclock the same or close to it.

I run my 920(cost 300.00) @ 3.73ghz-266FSB. <------ It runs those clocks with 1.35v(bios) which is in the default range..

exactly, not much reason IMO to buy a 3.8ghz part or a EE unless you are investing in some serious cooling to push it to the limit.

your 920 could probably do over 4 with water, still much cheaper than the high end chips.

*edit* just noticed you are using water?? are you just not willing to go over stock(ish) vcore?

Bro I run this sucker @ 4.4ghz+(needs 1.46v actual to be dual prime stable) for benchmarks. My PSU can't handle sustained system loads(3dmark06) for more then a few minutes when CPU is clocked over 4.3ghz. With the XTX, waterpump, 4 SATA hdd, everything i my sig. The CPU alone draws >280w when loaded(@4.2ghz)

Just get something with a Cedar Mill or Pressler core.
The 65nm chips seem to overclock well.

Is this what you are talking about?

It's fast, pretty cool, and a good overclocker, but the price will make you swoon.
