I would like to setup a network connection between Windows XP and a laptop I have that runs Linux Mandrake. The laptop is also running XP and I have both networked fine. For Linux do I need any specific protocol installed? How do I setup "drive sharing" with Linux. I would normally use NetBEUI but does Linux use that?

In the strictest sense, networking is simple. Its just all TCP/IP, give them proper TCP/IP settings and they should be able to ping each other, etc.

If you want to do the file sharing thing, then you will need to check out Samba (http://www.samba.org) for your Linux box.

No not offically but the drivers for NetBEUI are on the Windows XP install cd. They are here: X:\Valueadd\msft\net\netbeui (x: = drive letter of your CD-Rom)..:D

Don't see why you would need or want NetBEUI. Its a fairly undesirable and unnecessary network protocol.
