Hello Hello,
first off, mencioning like to thank everyone with all their knowledge in helping overclock my 733 celey to 1.10 =)

i went out and bought a PentAlpha heatsink/fan... slapped it in, and noticed a difference right away, although i was still using the default 1.7 vcore... which brings me to someone mentioning a "wire wrap" trick to raise voltages. I then began my search on the web to find out this trick. With the right data sheets, a half a pack of cigarettes, and a pure adrenalin rush flowing through my veins, i attempted this "wire wrap" trick (although i did not "wrap" anything, used the "pin hole" trick)... a few minutes after i had assemble the pc back together, and the other half a pack of cigarettes later, i finally decided to turn the pc on... All or nothing i say....
Time for celebration, at 1.9vcore.. it has ran stable so far.. although i have not trying playing any games yet (look for more posts later)... i have been playing mp3s and surfing the net for about 15 minutes thus far and no probs.

THANX OCFORUM! =D and all those who took the time to reply to my posts!!

well, just an update, i've been running for about 1 1/2 hours (or more, dun know what time it is or when i turned it on)... i played a divx movie and installed red alert 2 at the same time i was chatting on the net and the highest temp i got on the cpu was 41c

hope that's good, i know i shouldn't go above 45c.. anyone know of a good cpu tester?

I believe that might of been me that mentioned the wire trick and also suggested you should get a better CPU cooler. I have to admit, I had my doubts that you'd successfully make that big jump, but I'm glad you did. Welcome to the club!

I bet anyone would have doubted he got to that speed .. a 60% overclock is awsome good job man.

Use prime95 to test it. It is the definate test. Sandra and others will keep working while this won't.

Hi Masterhaides, many comps for your Great OC!
I suggest to stress to the max your System/Cpu Folding@home or Set@home, and for the graphics section 3Dmark2001 ;)

yea, id like to know the stats myself..
maybe try prime95 too

Well, i ran it for over 8 hours last night, no lock-ups/stalls.. all night, highest temp was 41c... ran 3dmark2001 this morning, no heatup at all.
running stable and FAAAASSSSTTTT =D

only thing (hoping someone could tell me why)
my default vcore was supposed to be 1.7.. and on mbm5 it read as only about 1.66 - 1.69.. after raising the vcore to 1.9 it now reads somewhere between 1.82 - 1.84... any reason why it reads lower?
(btw, in the bios it reads it as 1.89)

yea, mbm5 reads my vcore at 1.84, and bios say 1.835.. and my temp readings are all different.. my mobo is confuseing.. ud probly wanna get a compu-nurnce and use that on ur cpu.. that could give u an idea.. and about your vcore.. im not to sure what to sell you :(
but i guess as long as it runs stable and cool.. then its ok..

Great to hear you happy.. MBM sometimes give accurate readings but I'm pretty sure you won't have to worry if your stable and such just have fun now :P

yea i agree.. but with my mobo im not too sure.. ive heard of other ppl haveing trouble with temp readouts also..

Don't worry, I know only that it happens on all the systems, the value are always a little bit down or up than the rated, and for sure MBM shows the value taken by the Mobo sensors.

ok, i got the prime95
ran it for about 30 minutes and it heated up my cpu to about 57c b4 i realized how hot it was, and i shut everything down...
anyone have anymore more ideas on cooling?

What kind of PentAlpha are you using at the moment, something like the APSK0138 or the APSK0155?
I suppose that your Cpu need of a new HeatSink setup, the best for me are the ThermalRight SK6 or a Millenium Glaciator and always of a thin layer of thermal paste on the Cpu core!

i am using the pentalpha apsk0160 hsf...
is that not good enough?

i'm thinking of going the direction of a water block, i have all the tools, and plenty of machinist friends to help out. is that too extreme for this, or should i just try a better hsf ?

What thermal paste did you use? You did use thermal paste, right? I sure hope you didn't use one of those crappy heat pads that often comes with a new heatsink. The cooler you got is probably good enough, try reinstalling it and making sure you got it on properly. I'd buy a better motherboard before considering going to water cooling. Also, maybe consider lowering your voltage a notch or two and see what happens.

Since you have already have the Water Cooling Tools .. I hope they are good too.. Like pump should be 600+L/H and so on..

Instead of buying a costy 40 Dollars SK-6 go out and get yourself a good water block and I think you'll be set :)

i did use thermal paste, but i'm not sure what kind it is, i got it from a local computer store (they just gave me some in a container i brought with me). the hsf is on good, good contact and all.. i would lower the voltage, but i'm not sure i can go just a step down, cause of the default voltage, one of the vid pins are already connected to the vss, which makes the combinations limited. probly in a couple days (i have some schooling to attend.. A+ Cert =) )... i'll post the results when i do it and try the prime95 again... i'm gonna mount a secound (larger) fan above the one that is already on it. hopefully that will add some cooling.

well, i ripped off the factory fan off of it's heatsink, screwed it down to the side of the pentalpha heatsink blowing upwards toward my ventilation fan... then i made my ventilation holes a little bigger to get more throughput... and knocked out a few holes out of the bottom front of my case face plate to allow my intake fan to pull more cool air in... along with my 2 fan wind tunnel that blows air upward from the bottom of the case my 3 sensors on my mbm5 read as follows (after running prime95 for about 30 minutes)

sensor 1 = 26c
sensor 2 = 37c
sensor 3 = 38c
i'm pretty sure that the sensor 1 is my cpu, but that seems like an awfully low number to me, maybe i fried my sensor or something... i never had any of them above 45c except the sensor 3 was 57c few a few seconds.
so far so good

I'm sorry Masterhaides, but I suppose that the MBM Sensor1 is referred to your Mobo Chipset, and not to your Cpu, so it's still too hot and dangerous, so it's better to go with a cheaper Millenium Glaciator or try other tips & tricks for improve your HeatSink.
