Just curious really, the Quad SLI cards that contain effectively two 7900GT's/GTX's, can you run a single one of these cards (effectively regular dual card SLI) in a machine with a 16x PCIe slot?
In other words, to use one of these cards, do i need an SLI motherboard, or will my nForce 4 Ultra be able to work with this dual card/chip/whatever setup?

if you are looking at the Asus one of those cards STOP..
The card has NO good reviews. I posted a link about it.

I think fordsierra is referring to the upcoming dual gpu cards that nvidia will actually support (using the 7900 core). The previous ASUS card was a design of their own doing (using the 7800 core).

no, i think he is referring to the acual quad sli cards that are out now. heres the link. I was wondering the same thing, could I run just one of those(which are 2 cards in one) on a non-SLI mobo(nForce4).

You have to get 2 sets of those to get quad SLI, there just basically 2 cards put together and share one pci express port. But could u just run one set on a non-SLI mobo?

Yes. Those cards. I didn't realize they are out now. At least I've been ignorant about their release.

Yeah i wasnt referring to the ASUS 7800GT cards, seeing as i said specifically, 7900's in my initial post :)
It would just be really cool to be able to use one of these in a regular nForce 4 Ultra boards - avoids me having to go out and buy a whole new motherboard.

Yes it would also give us SLI on Intel platform without having to use the poor overclocking NF4-IE chipset.
From what I can see the GPUs are not interconnected on the card, like in the 7800 ASUS cards. Each GPU links to the one on the other card via the SLI bridge. I dont see any reason why you could not just use a flexible bridge and bridge the 2 GPUs on the single card, but I am not aware of anyone that has tried it yet.

I've only ever seen dual 6800GT and 7800GT cards. I recall the Gigabyte 6800GT variant requiring a specific (Gigabyte) motherboard, although I have no idea about the 7800GT. As for the 7900GT, either they won't make it (even though it's much faster, the GeForce 8 is approaching, and many consider dual 7800GTs "good enough") or they'll make it a ways down the line, as that sort of thing requires quite a bit of R&D.

Maybe a picture will help people understand the card is already out and we just want to know if it can be used on its own or has to be in a quad sli config like below.
