I was wondering if anyone has run into this problem. My fresh install of ME, is running completely unstable at all speeds (even stock), with 2 sticks of memory. Unfortunately, all I have is Apacer to test this theory with. 2 X 256 Apacer with Infineon chips, and 2 X 256 Apacer with Micron chips. I actually bought a new board thinking that the board was the problem (it still might be burnt, but I was willing to take the chance). I've freshy installed with the latest VIA 4in1's and latest Nvidia drivers, but it still doesn't want to take more than 1 stick of memory, either kind. I also had this problem at work with an Intel chipset. The thing that is really bothering me is that my second system is running ME, and I can put in as many sticks of memory as I want (well, it's got 3 slots), but no problems there. It is however, an older board (Via chipset). Now for the real question if you've stuck with me thus far...
...Is it the OS or the memory that's screwing up the works? If it's the memory, I can just go out and get 512 ECC, but if it's the OS, what isn't working right? Is there an update I need to get, or should I just install 98, 2000, or XP? I know some of you are going to say right off the bat "install XP, 2000, etc...", but that's not in my books a first resolution to the problem. I've run with more than 512 with my previous board (which may infact be still good), but I want to keep the M$ updates on this rig to a minimum. As a last resort I'll buy ECC memory, installing another OS isn't a problem, but it's a pain in the butt. I'd like to keep ME but, if I ABSOLUTELY have to, I can change to XP, 98SE, or 2000.
Any ideas, comments?
