It's a Leadtek one, with the gigantic cooler and 2 power connectors. I know this monster runs hot, but didnt expect 84°C :S Anyone know if this is normal?
btw the card is of a friend of mine, he purchased it but his PSU is not good enough, so we tested it in my rig.

Looks like the hsf isn't making good contact with the core, the fan is dead or there isn't enough airflow getting to the card.
You might want to remove the sink, clean off the goop from the core, apply some fresh thermal goop and reattach the sink. Also be sure the fan is spinning.

My buddy OCed his BFG 6800gt (agp) to Ultra speeds and beyond, and got similar temps with stock cooling. He ended up backing off the OC as he debates aftermarket cooling for the card. Personally, I recommend the Accelero X1, dropped my load temps ~23C without raising case temps one bit.

The card is brand new, and the case was open so enough air. Fan was spinning. Guess it's normal those things get that hot then.

I think that those cards do not even throttle until something ridiculous like 120C

i think it should be fine. Wasn't the thermal cutoff of the GPU is around 105 degree?

I have a eVGA 6800 Ultra and it run 53 - 58 loaded gaming BF2. (1-2 hrs)
and it runs like 50C at idle.
Stock speeds, room temp nothing special.
Try some AS5 on it.
