Hey,
I have set up my new ASUS A7V266-E with a AMD Tbird 1.13Ghz with a GlobalWin WBK38 and artic silver II. No shim or anytihng. I installed the HSF like described on Artic Silver webpage with no problems. But the temperature reading goes up to 48oC idle??? And 50oC after running that ***95 program (cant remember the name  ) for 10 minutes. It annoys me coz I had 41oC on a previous ABIT board...does boards read that much difference?
I use MBM to monitor temps and stuff. Anyone have any feedback?
Thanks
I can't say for sure about the A7V 266-E motherboard, but it has been well documented that the temperatures as reported on both the A7V and the A7V133 have been known to show temperatures as much as 10C higher than actual. Like I said, I don't know if this applies to the A7V 266E, but may be worth considering.
Good Luck!
I beleive the same thing regarding the A7V and the heat. It seems to be becuase of the acual placement of components on the motherboard.

I seem to have a similar problem... or maybe its oly me bot is it normal to have the idle tem just about 5 degrees celsius below the full load temp? I cant remember my the exect temps, cus my rig is out of order at the moment. But i think its 45 under full and about 40 on idle.
Om my previous system p3 733@803 i had a delta of at least 15 degrees.
Cheers
Adrian

I have similar temps.. i use a tbird 1.2 w/ a volcano 6cu and the idle temp is around 50c.. for me itīs kinda high.. but if this asus temp problem of reading 10c higher than the actual temp is exists itīs a nice temp.. my mobo is a a7v133

hmm.. i seem to be having the same problem. My idle is usally around 45 and my load goes from 50-55. So it could be something with the sensor on the mobo.

yea, im up to 60C right now at full load.. =X
guys,
just be careful no one goes over 80C, that could mean big problems and fryed chips. It happened to a buddy and it sucked bigtime :-)

Hi paperclip
I have the Asus A7V266-E (XP1600+) & my temps are 38-39C idle/42-43C load.
I am using the Alpha 8045 heatsink with a YS quiet fan. I have gone for this option because of the noise of the 7000rpm fans.
The heatsink you are using is very respectable but what about the rest of your case is there sufficient air flowing thro it?
I have also cut & mounted a 80mm fan directly in line with the heatsink so as to blow cold air straight onto the cpu area.
Hope this helps, buy the way my last board was a Asus A7V & that had a Fop 32 set up running mid 40`s on a Athlon 1000

Your temps are probaly false. Asus motherboards are notorius for aweful temp sensors. I have learned to never trust a motherboards temp sensor again so i recomend you pay the measly $15 and get a temp probe.
I'm thinkin the same thing. My temps CAN'T be what they are. 50c load would burn my finger, not just just make it mildly warm (placing my finger on the hsf close to the die). Especially w/ my window open and the ambient room temp being no more than 20c.

Thanks for all the feedback. I can only assume that my mobo is reading the worng temps since i had less on the abit - i did exactly the same things when i installed the HSF see...
Hmm what do u do with a diode? Where do u put it etc?
And another question:
How do u connect a second PSU to the system - I have an idle 230W that I'd like to use, but havent got a clue on how to get it respond to the components need for power - do i plug 1st PSU ---> second PSU ---> mobo ?? or is there something else that needs to be done?
cheers
