Single 7900GX2

Does anyone know if it is possible to run a single card in SLI - effectively giving you SLI 7900GTXs on any PCIex16 board?
It seems to me these cards are designed only for use in a quad sli setup. The GPUs are not interconnected on each card, but connected by an SLI bridge to the opposing GPU on the 2nd card?
Any ideas?
