Disable animated gif

too many avatars close to 200k, and it kinna get choppy when I scroll down the thread. I know I can disable avatars but I don't want to. so here is the question, anyone know how to make the gif stop while srolling in IE? I noticed the IE on the Mac in my school stopped the gif when I scroll and started again when I am not. thanks

I noticed while I scroll down it sorta stops then jumps!

If you use that thingy that appears when you hold down the mouse wheel, it will stop them.
