View Full Version : SLI 6600GT or 7600GT!?
I've not seen any benchmarks around for this so I figured I would ask here. My friend is building a PC in a few weeks and hes on a tight budget and he is looking at a 7600GT for his VGA. I have a single EVGA 6600gt and I was also thinking of upgrading soon (I do not have a SLI mobo, but my friend does) I was thinking of selling him my 6600GT for around 60-80$ and he would still be in budget to pick up another 6600gt for around $120 ish and have them in SLI, then I would pick up a 7600GT. So the question is, how do 2x 6600gt compare to a single 7600GT? I want to make this fair for my friend and me so some help would be good.
neither if you must go NV for $200 range get a 6800gs
The point is I want to get rid of my 6600gt and make it easy to sell. Can I get an alswer to my question?
You don’t even have one. I'm sure from personal experience they are absolutely fantastic.
how the hell would you know what I have or have had? :p
I have a 6600gt, had a 6800gt, 7800gt, 7800gtx and I overclocked and installed 2 6800gs's for friends.
The 7600GT is a good choice. You could SLI them later and make them equal/better to a 7900GT.
I wouldn't really recommend SLI 6600GT's because for the price you pay for them, you could've gotten a x850xt or a 7600GT and SLI them later on when prices come down lower.

7600GT outperforms 6800GS by a good margin. It runs cooler and quieter as well. There is absolutely no point for 6800GS at the moment. (unless you don't have PCI-e)
7600GT is the no brainer.
It looks like no one has read my origional post. Its for a friend when he can get a 6600gt SLI set up for $180 or a single 7600gt for $190... So, the question is again, which is better?

A single 7600GT is better because you can SLI them later. With the 6600GT SLI, you're stuck there forever. Plus you have to worry about ventilation issues, heat, finding the right motherboard, etc.

if your friend is on a tight budget then I suggest he purchase your 6600gt and worry about sli'ing it in the future when more funds become availible. A 7600gt would be the best choice as they are faster then two 6600s or a 6800 and run cooler/use less power.

I'm not talking about getting a 7600gt later (Budget) I'm talking about at the very moment - does a 7600gt beat out 2x6600gt's - and so far i've gotten one "yes"

Definitely go for the 7600gt. Your friend will regret it later if he doesnt.

ok lets say later isnt an option :p
Yes, a 7600GT beats out a 6600GT SLI. A 6600GT SLI is on the same level as a 6800GT. A 7600GT performs a little better than a 6800GT.
Go with the 7600GT.

Concur. SLI kicks the crap out of your ventilation unless you're well ventilated. (voice of personal experience).
Go for the single 7600GT, and if he wants to he can SLI 'em later.
Anyone got any creative ways to get rid of an old 6600GT?

try the classifieds or ebay. Maybe make your mom/dad/little brother or sister or whatever a gaming rig even.
singel 7600GT for all the reasons other ppl states ( can upgrade later, mobo, ventalation) ect

well if I can ever get rid of my NV4 BSOD's Ill see how the 120 facing the 2 7600GT's works. So far the case is running 6F above ambient at idle. then again, 2 80's in 2 80's out, 120 in and a 92blowhole out will make a case very windy.
Eh, I had a eVGA 6600GT back in the day, FPS way always above 100 in CSS everything maxed :)

Get your friend a 7600GT, then sell your 6600GT in the classifieds section of this site. SLI takes too much power / makes too much heat, has no upgrade future, and doesn't perform too well when matched with 2 midrange cards.

SLI has no upgrade future?
Care to elaborate

I guess it was worded oddly. What i meant to say was "if you're already running 2 cards in SLI then you have no future upgrade path"
If he has 2 x 6600gt's in SLI then he has no upgrade future, he will have to buy a new card(s) entirely. If he were to get a 7600gt, then yes, he would have an upgrade future.

My 6600GT sold within 2 hours in the classifieds for $90 shipped.
