I picked up a Toshiba M55 / P-M 1.73, 512 ram, yad yad, this weekend. Brand new and unbeatin on. Fresh out of the box I hooked it up for T-32. :)

How long before it blows up? :)

The harddrive gets awful hot! Hot air thermals waf up from all around it. :)

I thumped on Best Buy untill they sold it to me for cheap. :)

Anyway
FOLD ON!!!!

Glad to hear it. Though be careful Toshiba laptops are known for overheating, though usually they just restart themselfs.

I'm not sure about Toshiba, but I've been folding (previously seti) on laptops for a long time. currently folding on my Sony SZ T2400 since day one. may be you wanna download SpeedFan to monitor the system/HDD temp.

fold on!!

On my lappys I just put bigger feet on them to raise them up off the table a little and hit them with some as5. I haven't had any problems with them overheating yet. You could get a laptop cooler to go under it if heat still becomes a problem, they're pretty cheap.

Speaking of fixing the heat problem, I forgot to mention you could undervolt it. I just did it to my brothers Asus and dropped it about 6c. It's not awsome but certianlly an improvment, battery life is also better. http://www.nordichardware.com/Articles/?skrivelse=465 is a good guide, though the undervolting tool you will use is slightly more updated then theirs, so the GUI is not excacly the same.

When I was folding on my laptop it got very hot. I ended up taking all the covers on the bottom (RAM, ethernet, hdd) and setting it on a laptop cooler. From then on it ran very cool. The downside was I had to put the covers back on whenever I took it somwhere.

Lappy is still folding! Its been a great addition to my farm. The cooling problem has been delt with. I set it on a bakers cooling rack when its on my desk Was a heap-cheap solution. The harddrive and nic. card really blast out the heat. The cpu fan combo seem to be doing the job just fine.

If it does get too hot, you can back down the cpu usage. The laptops I have folding in hot environments are set to 75%.

I've been folding close to 6 months (24/7) on a Gateway lappy and it hasn't had any major problems. :D

I've been folding for about the same time as khiloa on a dell 600m notebook. Also run mj-12, rl, and nedDIMES on it. Hard drive's about to go (getting really hot and making some funny noises) but besides that it's fine!

If you are worried about the drive you could FAH off the Ram.

one good tip is to raise it off the surface of you desk or whatever it is place on by half an inch or something. This let's the heat radiate off the bottom faster. 20oz soda bottle caps work perfectly.

I'm really not too worried about it, if the hd dies I'll just attempt a network or flash drive boot:p I don't really care that much anyway, I got the lappy for like $100 anyway.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 6000 or my kid (20) and upgraded the HDD to
a 7200 and better vid for gaming, OMG ! it runs Sooooo
much cooler.

I figured the faster hdd, it would access the info faster and run cooler.
So far it's worked out great.

I had about 20 notebooks folding 24/7 100% sitting on carpet (the display racks) and none of them ever had any heat issues...then again, they were almost all mobile cpus.
