Hey,
Alright, my sig is updated so you can see what I am working with currently. Trying to upgrade the CPU to a dual core that will OC well with my setup. The Vapo Chill LS should get me into the 5Ghz club I hope without spending too much $$. Looking for the 3-4 hundred $ price range. Waiting is an option, in no hurry. Thanks for your suggestions.
Presler 920 if you are trying to keep the budget low.

do you really (and i mean really) NEED a dual core RIGHT NOW!!!!??
you are already sitting on 4.3ghz, it might be an idea to wait for conroe, if only for the price cuts it will cause on everything else.

Presler 920 if you are trying to keep the budget low.Ditto.
They run hot like any post 130nm Netburst processor but are thermally managable and overclock well. Since you already have the other pieces, this would be your best upgrade option.do you really (and i mean really) NEED a dual core RIGHT NOW!!!!??

That's only if his system is Conroe compatible and Conroe won't be out for awhile. The Presler is a quick fix for cheap.

Presler 920 cannot be beat IMO for a budget CPU. Will OC to 3.73ghz atleast with very little voltage increase. Any more then around 3.8ghz and you hit a wall that can only be surpassed by vcore.

Ok, the 920 is at 2.8 right? Meaning it would have a multiplier of 14 - right? So I would have to get the FSB well over 300 to get a better OC then I have now, don't think it will do that - right? Like I said, looking to get close to the 5Ghz mark. Was thinking more along the lines of the 940 with a multiplier of 16.

Then roll the dice on a 940. Whether you hit 5GHz or not is still a matter of chance as well as skill even if everyone else is doing it. Good luck.
Good point. I was thinking only of the cost, but if you are going for 5 gig with phase change, then you should think about FSB too. I have an early 940 and got a 4.9 gig suicide run on water. It was very unstable to say the least, but with phase change it probably would of worked ok. I can run 4.5 to 4.6 gig stable on water. If you get a decent processor, I think you have a good shot at your goal. To help with expense a little, Intel should be cutting prices towards the end of the month.

But I still believe the question: "Do you need it right now?", is applicable.
The new 9.xx C1 steppings (barring the 920), & relatively significant price drops, are right around the corner. Should be a matter of several weeks, at the most, unless some unknown issue has cropped up.

While at 4.3Ghz, I would think you have more than enough processor power, if you really want a dual core, then get the 920.

Wait until after any price drops, then you can make a sound decision on the likes of a 940 and what cooling solution you want to implement.

Hey guys, thanks for all the responses. Finally got a chance to fidle with the Vapo chill and got my 630 to 4.8GHz, totally stable!! I can't believe it, I am fine with waiting a while with this processor for the prices to drop. The only problem I have is all music media - from mp3s to yahoo music videos play too fast. Like they play 4 seconds in one and sound like the chipmuncks. Anyone ever ran into this problem?? I asked Asetek (makers of vapochill since the the addition of the vapochill is what caused this) and they have never heard of it. I am hoping that changing the processor will fix this problem. I can post screen shots if needed about the 4.8 @ 1300FSB - can anyone help me with my music deficiency?? Thanks again
@danimbk. Very nice OC on that 630. Would you mind posting actual CPU temps @ LOAD and IDLE along with evap temps. Just curious what the "loss" is and how well the LS holds up under load....thx

about your music, etc, playing too fast, are you using onboard sound, or an add in card? either way, try the other if you can to see if that's the problem.
also, some soundcards have in their options a way to set the speed faster, you might want to check that out.
it most certainly is NOT your cpu that is causing your problems.
congrats on the newfound OC you got there, nice chip ;)

The evap temps never get worse than -37C no matter what I through at it. All my cpu temp sensors are haywire in windows with the negative temps. Only thing that works is the bios - which needless to say only measures idle temps. Which are 10-15 degrees higher than what the evap says. I imagine it would get a little worse under load. But the temps are gonna stay in the negatives no matter what.

I have a similar problem too. When ever I go past 4.5ghz, Counter Strike starts running to fast I walk faster then everyone else, banners and smilies, etc play to fast also.

That sounds like it would be an advantage to have your player goin faster than the other :D

People kept saying I was hacking and I got banned from 2 servers.

what??? that would be a speed hack, in cs:s it is probably the most annoying and blatant hack there is.
i have never heard of this before, a built in speed hack, every time you oc over 4.5ghz?? has this happened to anyone else??

Currenlty I can't even get the speakers / sound card to work. So I hear nothing. But when I play windows media, napster, yahoo music vids, or any other media player the track plays 4 seconds in one. I watch the bar move quickly across the screen and the timer benieth it goes 0, 4, 8, 12 and so on. I had the cpu oced to 4.2Ghz with water and everything was normal. The addition of the vapochill with the same overclock made all this happen. Can't imagine why and no one has given me a good answer on it yet. So I am just hoping that a new processor will fix it.
I can't imagine how a new processor would help ... but then I am no hardware engineer :o

I had a 640 @ 4.4ghz on water then I went to a 920 on water at 4.2 ghz 300fsb and it dominated my 640. Then I decided to go to a 955XE es :santa:
with my 955xe es I am currently running in the range of 4.8-4.9ghz trying to find the happy spot to stay at till my phase arrives!
the 920 processors a AWESOME For the money!!
they clock really well too!!
300fsb easy with low volts.... and if your using phase it would be 360x14 to get it to 5ghz that would be 1440fsb. you would have quite a setup running those speeds. I think you could probably do it running like 1.58-1.6v on phase without any issues.
It would be a worthwhile upgrade till conroe if you have the money to burn.

Just don't think the FSB will go to 360. Thats why I think the 940 so I won't need to go too far over 300. Thats my experience with the prescotts anyway. Are the Preslers really that different? I mean, if you really think the FSB on the 920 will go to 360 with a vapochill ls - thats incredible and I will get one today. Almost half price of the 940. Without all the "well, every chip is different" advice, what is everyone's take on this? To get to 5Ghz on a vapochill ls - go with the 940 16*312 or 920 14*360? Which is more likely?
The motherboard is more likely to be FSB limited than the CPU. Most folks I've seen doing 350 FSB or more have modded motherboards. Ross claimed his P5WD2 would do insane FSB, but he might be more the exception rather than the norm. If you are looking for 5+ gig dual core using phase change, I would wait for the next price drop (very soon) and find a 940 in the new stepping.
