Did any of you guys running these chips try them with the retail HS/fan unit? If so, what did you find the limits to be, as far as o/c speed and the voltage required? I'd like to start with that, although I'll probably be going to one of my other heatsinks. Also, I need to know about this with the heatspreader still attached.

Thanks, Rick

BTW, I hope this isn't against the rules here, but here are the two best deals I found on the 1.2:

PCCost has them for $107 (cost me $116 shipped), but has a less than stellar RSR.

TechStore has a great RSR and has them for $112 (shipping for me would have been around $8, but they were on backorder at the time I purchased mine)

I think people have been able to get to 1.44 with the retail HSF, but the temps are too high to leave it there... hell, right now, folding 24/7, my chips at 46C :p and I have a sweet Fan/heatsink.

I'm going to but not until I have to.

I've been getting some lockups the last day or so, dunno why yet, some other strange stuff is happening with Folding at home, suspecting it's the cause, not the chip (think these things can do 50C stable).

Hesitant to take the IHS off only because there's risk and I really don't use this chip's full potential anyway... hell I could run it at stock speeds and not notice any changes, just like the bragging rights of 1.50 coppermine :).

I only pretend to be interested in overclocking, I'm really here to annoy people ;).

well, if people can hit 1.44 with stock cooling im sure a VolcanoII can handl 1.45 :).....i havent seen the heatsinks on these puppies, are they better than previous intel retail heatsinks?

They should be WAY better than the retails before.. Considering the fact they can handle the 1.44 ghz and how hot the Tually gets.

They appear to be "better", but the prior heatsinks were about as crappy as they could make them and still get some form of cooling happening... these really are just larger, so the benefit is in more surface area, but don't expect improved construction or fan.
