View Full Version : Vgpu & Vdd Modded 9600 SE 128 To The Max !
Well I am in a gfx card comp atm, and obviously I want to win :p but my gfx card overclocking experience is none and my soft modding is not a lot as well. The comp is to overclock your card as much as possible and to bench them on aquamark and the 3 fm benches. We all have 9600 SE 128s and most are modded, I didn't mod mine thank god :santa: . I am in the air cata and have some nice cooling on my card(not heatpipe just a custom hs/f) Are there any bioses I can use that will help me? I know one guy has a VDDQ mod which puts me in a bit of hot water  .
Here is a pic of the core -
It Just says Radeon 9600 SE at the top line.

so you are looking to increase performance without a volt mod?
Yea basically don’t want to do any hard mods now just softmods and bioses

I assume you have a 128 bit bus. You can't softmod that card to anything. Other BIOS won't help a bit anyway.
Only raising the frequencies will yield improvement. If your card is at its top already, mr Voltmod is your friend then.

danI will just clock it to the max then till it dies, the other mod would be Vddq but considering that’s not my department, I will steer clear from it :) .
What do you suggest I use for the OCing, ATI tool or Cata Software from ATI?
Do some voltmods ;) its only a 9600.... You got nothing to lose

None that I know of. Anyway, if it dies (which is unlikely), you are only like $30 down.
For OCing, I like to use Rivatuner.

danI thought that was focused on NVIDIA, but it won't support the latest cat drivers anyway.

It works on both, I use an old version with the newest drivers and no problems.

danIt works on 6.4 Cata? It doesn't work on the NVIDIA 84.21 drivers.

Fine for me on 6.3

danOk I will check it out when I get it running once I finished modding the cooling. I lost the caps for my damn angle grinder :( so the projects on hold atm, I have a week to submit my stock results anyway.
I will 6.4 cata drivers as they seem to give an increase on performance for the benchs, I will try ati tool first as well as it has that artefact scanning thing on it.

The 9600 doesn't produce much heat, so I wouldn't expect superb results from beefier cooling.
And remember that the newest drivers have gains mostly for the x1*** series, the R3** and R4** seem to have been already tweaked to the max.
Otherwise make sure you have a beefy CPU, to get the most out of your GPU.

danI don't have an AGP rig anymore so I am using my bros, it’s a 2500 XP with an MSI K7N2 (wish it was Abit) Bla Bla board and 1gh of crucial ddr400 the 2500 XP will do 2.2 GHz pretty easy so it shouldn't be problem. I blew his shoddy 300W PSU up last week ocing so I got a brand new cheapy 600W Magma PSU from my dad which has 17A on the 12v which is a little worrying lol but it should be ok.
it will be at the voltage I am running it at :P. What heat and volts on the core/mem you recon will kill the card?

I remember a guy that was running 1.6 -1.7 volts on a 9600xt, don't know if his card died. If I remember correctly, stock voltage is 1.3.
Anyways, I had a 9600xt that ran with 80 celsius for over 6 months. The HS didn't make a good contact, but it ran fine. But I still wouldn't go over that.

danI found out yesterday my brothers XFX 6800GT is running at 104C idle and sometimes he gets artis when playing the game Dawn of war. lol I was quite shocked it was still alive it all happened when he tried a bulky nb cooler and broke a cap off the card and my dad did a shoddy job of soldering it on lol  . God knows when it gets to under load lol.
