ok heres the deal...I have 2 computers networked...the one i'm using is the server comp...and using a switch...but it doesn't really matter....heres the problem....everytime i turn on the server comp...and the other comp is turned off (client)...when the server comp goes into windows it says it can't find drive f:, which is the hard drive on the client computer, which is also not on. I think windows think its a permanent drive, and it checks for it everytime. I just formatted my drive a few weeks back, before that it never happened. How would I fix this problem??...

one other thing...my comp can see the files on the client comp, but the client comp can't see my server comp, how come??...i changed the group name to the same thing, everything is working fine on the client comp, internet still works, but i just can't share files with the server comp from my client comp.

Thx in advance...

You have a drive shared on your client that the server is looking for when it boots. You have to remove the share. You can do that through My Network Places in Win2000, and Network Neibourhood in 9x/ME

Disconnect the (persistent) mapped drive on the server- thats the pointer that is looking for the client pc's hdd.

Do you have anything shared on the server pc?

If not, from the client pc you can map a drive to the server's administrative share (by adding $ after the drive letter) and make it persistent.

A note about persistent mapped drives: they can be a pain during boot up, but they are an easy way to connect to admin shares.
