I can not seem to find much on 2 SLI'd 6800XT 256 cards

Since these cards are 256 bit that is one plus, I realize they are ddr1 I believe and 8 piped but I have seen them as low as 80 bux shipped for a retail boxed unit. That is tempting to try out with a cheap evga sli board, somewhere in the are of 250 and under?

Word, who knows or has some proof on what they can do, would they be close to a 7800GT or more a 6800GS

Enquiring minds want to know (more so mine)

I think they'd outperform a GS, but not by much....You might want to find out if any pipes can unlock on them too.

from what little info I have seen and read they will not unlock in most part, they overclock well but appear to be stuck on 8 pipes.

a 6800XT is a lesser performer than a 6600gt.... my 6600gt oc's LIKE A BEAST stock is 500/900 i can oc it to 626/1282 which turns out to be a 22% performance advantage over a 6800nu

From the benches I have read about when I was getting ready to buy my 7800GT (I was searching for reviews and benches to decide between the GT or GTX) and I remember that one site was comparing those 2 cards along with 2 X 6800GT's in SLI, and 90% of the time the single 7800GT just barely outperformed them, and in a couple of the games, the 2 6800GT's barely outperformed the 7800GT. I dunno how much slower the 6800XT's are, but still, why not wait a lil' while for the prices to drop on the 7800GT's, then save up again and get another one of those, 2 7800GT's in SLI should futureproof u for a good while :) Just my opinion

I agree, if I was going to SLI I would buy a decent card now and get another later.

I have two 6800 xt's in SLI.

Here is a thread I started on my benchmarks...not to bad for $200 in video cards.

Those are some nice scores, and you answered the question for the OP. They are a little better than a 7800GT, and for less money.

The XFX XTreme is better than most because it has GDDR3 memory, which I haven't been able to find on other 6800 XTs.

actually the XT cards such as the XFX will produce better numbers than an overclocked 6600GT from what I have seen so far, in addition they are 256 bit and offer double ddr, same pipelines at 8.

I just see this as a cheap sli solution especially with a fast dual core or 2.7ghz single core

I think it would be pretty satisfing :sn:

You can not unlock pipes on them PCI-E cards, you can on the AGP ones.

The 7800GT is really not that much, i got mine for $200 for instance off ebay (really good deal, but still) because i waited and watched for so long. I'd go for it, you'll be happier in the long run.

thats a good deal but it is also ebay, I have seen the XT cards for cheap used between 80-100 shipped but brands vary. For me I just do not have the gear long enough usually and just thought it would be an intersting and cheap combo to play with. But you got a great deal on the GT and was that a shipped price

what I am really searching for is a evga 6800gs cC0 superclocked to match one I am expecting to arrive next week or there is a problem but these cards seem hard to find, I just would prefer a matched clocks before the faster one downclocks or prefer not to have to be bothered with bios flashing

The total came to $209 with 3 day shipping and insurance :) $80 for an XT, so if you buy 2 then you're at $160, honestly for $40 you can have such better performance!
