I say the X1800XT.
More memory, higher res. (if you are into that)
Adjustable voltages so no hard mods.
what if i play @ 1680x1050?

I think the 512mb will benefit you but you will have to do some homework there, I play at relatively low res so I never researched it.
x1800xt, they oc well also, WAY BETTER IQ and better at high res
512mb if you want that res.

I have a 7900GT OC and the same monitor as you and I do not regret buying the 7900GT. I have not been able to play any of the very recent releases as of yet (oblivion should be here today), but I have played about a half an hour of COD2 @ max res with everything cranked, including shadows, and it is as detailed and smooth as I could want. No complaints. I don't have any shimmering and the image quality is not bad at all.
I DO agree that the ATi cards have "sharper" images(used to own x800pro), but as Sen has said nVidia has better color quality. I also agree with the fact that the extra ram does/will come in handy. Especially if you plan on keeping the card for a while and more games start to show up. The only reason I did not buy a 1800/1900 card is the heat output. I live in the south and it is HOT. I already have enough on my hands keeping thing P4 cool...not to mention what it does to my room temps.
well i got a x180x0t, the card is playing everything wonderfully except for the new tomb raider
i can turn everything up and its smooth as butta, but when i turn on the next gen goodies, i got lag =/

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I'm deciding between these two cards and play at 1280*1024, so would the GT be a better bet?

At that resolution I think the difference would be negligible. The two cards are pretty similar at lower resolutions. However, like I said earlier the 512MB of ram the 1800 has may help in the future...if you are planning to keep your card for a while.

most benchmarks of the latest games that Iv seen show pretty sad frame rates on some of the newest games at modest widescreen resolutions, this is for all the top dog cards like x1800 and x1900 and 7800gtx cards, so Iv been trying to figure out myself is it really worth getting 512mb, as it seems that only a sli or crossfire setup will really give good frame rates on widescreen resolutions
If your playing a game at a Resolution that will use more than 256mb, will you I even have playable Frame rates?

Seems to be a driver issues, most people are having problems with that game.
