Got a quick question for anyone that might know..... I installed Win2k Pro. about a month ago and I am satisfied with its performance so far. I ran "Norton Speed Disk" this evening and my directory files were totally untouched. They are in a diagonal pattern completely separate from the rest of the files on my hard drive. Well, because that didn't do what I was hoping I ran the "defrag" utility and it told me that my "ShellIcon.cache" was still fragmented and no matter how many times I defrag it isn't touched. Basically....what is going on....???? Is there anything that I can do or should I format and reinstall.......?

Try doing a defrag in safe mode or if there is an option for a defrag at your next bootup, this way nothing is running while its doing its thing. I use disk keeper and it has a boot time defrag option.

norton speed disc is one of the the only defrags that defrag in use and system files in online mode(win2k/xp), not using the MoveFile Api. Are you using NTFS? I surely hope so.
