I want to get an XP but I can't decide which one to go with. The 1500+ is atractive due to it's low proce but I want to get some real speed. If you guys could just drop a line and say which XP you have and your opinion on it I would be grateful. TIA :)

Why an XP? A Thunderbird will overclock a lot higher and its cheaper. I am going to wait for the prices to come down before I jump on the bandwagon. Right now I get the performance I want out of my 1.4 Thunderbird.\

I agree with Abb1. I only got an AXP 1600 because my other processor was a celeron II 667 mhz. But if you already have an Athlon Tbird, then wait a little longer till you get an XP processor. But if you just can't wait, then go with the 1600, because it is only like 20 bucks more then the 1500, and it is faster. On pricewatch.com it is actually the exact same price as the 1500, go figure.

I would go with an XP if your going to buy something mostly because it runs a lot cooler so OCing with Air is not to hard of a task. My sig system I had to go WC to get 1.6Gig with it.

My newest system

Xp1600 @ 1.533 Ghz Stable
38C loaded 31C in the case (MBM)
MSI K7T266 Pro2.

Volcano 6Cu+ will push this system higher once I get a better HSF on it.

i dont think the t-bird o/c a lot higher, but you are right, the 1.4 o/c is not a bad chip by any means, and it is so cheap. in fact, my sandra scores from my o/c 1.4 is higher than the stock xp sandra scores tom's hardware posted.

Thanks for the replies, I think I may go with the XP1600, the reason I am upgrading is because I want to make the move to ddr ram, I figure if I am giong to get a new mobo and the like I might as well get the proc too. The cooler temps are a big plus to me as well, my case is very crowded and while the airflow is pretty good, I would still like to have my temp a few degrees lower. Keep the replies coming, I ivite all the opinions I can get. Thanks again...

Make sure you flash your BIOS before you get rid of you current CPU if you haven't already. It's much cheaper that way.

Go for a new MB and an XP...I love this thing. Runs cool, overclocks very smooth. At the prices now days it's a shame not to upgrade..lol.

Very cool. From a Tbird 1.4 266 AYHJA to an XP 1600+ (1.4) 266 AGKGA, I dropped about 10 °C while folding.
