Not a big surprise. I bet we see the PS3 hit $3000 on Ebay if it's released before Christmas.

Wow, thats a smart way to make money. If I had a Xbox360, and someone offered me $1000 for it, I would sure sell it.

im buying 2 at launch. ones going straight on ebay. hopefully it will pay for both of them. if someone wants to give me an insane amount of money for the console, they can have it. its not like its stealing is it.

heck, i'm going to pre-order one.
And then i'm going to check E-bay prices. If people will pay 2x or 3x the store price for a PS3, i'm going to sell it.
If someone would buy it from me at 1500 bucks, HELL YEAH I'M SELLING IT. That would let me do nearly a full upgrade on my PC.
sure, i want the PS3 BADLY, but extra cash is ALWAYS better.

I don't really see it greed, I see as exploiting idiots with to much money. really you can't blame them why sell it at $500 if you can sell the exact same amount of units for $1000

I agree, if some idiot is going to pay $1,000.00, why not take his or her money.
Best thing to do on a console is wait 6-12 months later and get it for a good price, plus by then more games will be released for it.

I see absolutely no problem with retailers doing this. Something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay, if they can sell it for more then they should. Thinking that it's not fair to offer something up at auction is just insane and ignorant in my opinion.

Its one thing for a consumer to buy a ps3, and take it to eBay, but the retailer's? -sigh-

I'm lost...what makes this person that buys one for $1000+ an idiot??
Maybe these people just dont have time or dont care to wait in line for hours to get a console.

Agreed. Even if i had the money to pay 2x the normal price i wouldn't.

I have no problem with them doing this. It's the beauty of supply and demand. I bought 3 Xboxes when they first came out way back. A well dressed guy approached me outside of EB games as I was leaving and asked me if they had any and I said only if you pre-ordered. He said his son's birthday was coming up and he needed one very badly and couln't find them online. Handed me 7 $100 bills and asked if that would cover the cost and I said yeah, handed him a bag with the Xbox. I sold the other one that night within an hour of putting it on ebay for just over $700 also. The third I kept becuase Halo was just too addicting to give up quite yet. Probably the single best investemnt I've made in my life so far. Not a big money maker like real estate or stuff like that but it's all based on the same principle.
So there's nothing wrong with doing this. If you want money, this is how it's done. There's nothing new going on here. Why do the ford GT supercars sell for $100,000 over MSRP? Because the dealers know that there are pletny of people out there that money is not an issue to them.
If I had $1000 laying around and I wanted a PS3, I'd buy one for $1000...that is, if money were not an issue.
For the vast majority of us here though, I can only assume that money isnt' the easiest thing to come by so just waiting a few months for prices to drop seems like the most intelligent decision.
Or, you could save up like crazy and pre-order if possible a couple of them and then just put them up on ebay. You KNOW someone will pay more for them than you will pay. It's practically a sure thing. We've witnessed this happen twice now and with the game industry as hot as it is, I can't think of a single reason why it won't happen when the PS3 comes out.

I suppose in my mind you should either wait in line for hte 15 hours and pay the retail price or wait till the supply increases and pay the normal price. I can't see paying twice as much for something to have it a month early or save waiting a couple hours in line. (then again I suppose I can't see getting a console at all, but thats besides the point)
