I need an app that allows me to grab a quick thumb/ image cap of a video playing.
I been making a gallery for my website and have about 260 videos that need thumbs. I can use the program I use to convert the videos from .mov to .wmv. It is cumbersome to use for captures of thumbs. It adds 5 minutes setup per video proccesing time.
I want to be able to grab a specific part of a video to represent the item. To be able to make a certian size thumb would also be nice and in jpeg. I can use batch in photoshop if need be. Thats if a program only takes shots in full size and .bmp.
Any ideas?

I use fraps, works pretty well.

I took a look at fraps. It did take a cap of the vids. I am still at taking a very long time to batch the files to jpeg an manually renaming each file. It did not give me much effiiciency gains against my current program.
My current setup:
Ready batch for capture. (I usually do 25 at a time)
set times for frame caps/ locate a nice cap out of the lot
batch in PS7 from bmp to jpeg
rename
move to host directory
Fraps:
locate video and play.
wait for specific frame
capture in fraps
convert in PS7 from bmp to jpeg
resize for site while optimizing for web
rename
move to host directory
Thank you for the suggestion. It would of worked well for a few vids. I have alot of work ahead of me and need a batch feature to make the proccess more streamlined. Plus I am hoping for a non-bmp cap. If the free version did jpeg caps it would of been a minute faster for each file. :D Opening each file is time consuming. Then the rename. If it took the video name it would be a much faster procces for me. 260 vids to do @ 5 minutes per is alot of time..

irrelevant
VLC media player allows you to capture an image. You will need to resize it with a photo editor later though it you are going to use them for thumb nail images.
I think you can still get a trial version of camtasia, a professional video capture program. Pretty much FRAPS on steroids.

Try SnagIt. Its free for 30 days. I was able to capture a how-to video for a Senior Design Project. Worked flawlessly for me.

You mean you want ot take a screenie of a movie that is playing. not making a video, right?
Why not disable hardware acceleration on your video card? http://www.deskshare.com/msr-help/Disablinghardwareacceleration.aspx
