A friend on here just mailed me a copy of the BF2 demo.. its a very entertaining game to say the least, but obviously, this game was designed towards multiplayer gaming... The only multiplayer I ever do is LAN gaming, and I dont think my friends are gonna join in on this, they arent into this type of game, and one or two of them would be forced to upgrade gfx cards...
Is it worth dropping the $40 to buy this just to play the single player game? Does it have any type of story or is it just a unreal tournament style shoot-em' up game?
Thanx for the help!

not it is extremly boring for single player, hell fun at lans but it has zero story line, single player is basically you against 16 bots on the mini size of the regular maps. dont buy it unless you plan on playin on the internet

yeah even if the computer AI can kill you, it's all just so blah. Wait till you play online with people who KNOW how to play a game and how to move as a unit as a whole, fly in a chopper with someone who really knows how to fly, that's when the game really shines.
SP is just target practice.

I agree, the game really shines when you get into MP. The unlocks and what not. The overall gameplay is so much better.

EA ****ed me off when they took off the LAN COOP feature.

You can still LAN CO-OP. You just start a Single player game, and then the person on your LAN types in your IP address to join it.
There are also mods to add bots, which is really just editing some lines in an .ini file, and to make single player maps the size of 64 player maps.
I also use Hamachi to do LANs over internet. http://www.hamachi.cc/

K, looks like I'll wait till its on the $20 menu :)
Thanx for those replies!
I guess there really arent any good single player FPS games out right now eh? The newest FPS's I have are Far Cry, Doom 3, HL:2, Quake 4, and FEAR. Is there anything else I should have?

S.W.A.T. 4 and its expansion, they can be had via Gold Edition for only $30. The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay, which can be had for around $20. Call of Duty 2 is also very good if you never played the original, or were a big fan (It's basically the same stuff). You can find it for less than $40.
Definitely check out S.W.A.T. 4 and Riddick though.
i def would not buy this to play single player. def go with swat 4.
Far Cry and Swat 4 are two of the best singleplayer FPS ive played in a long time.

Riddick is one of my favorite games. Also I'd say CoD2.

Single player is alright but after playing MP once, it makes SP seem really really really lame.....

I'm gonna have to go against the flow and say that its an awesome game for Single Player, at least for the kind of gamer I am. My attention span is horrible, so I can fire up a sp round and play for 20 minutes and have a blast. I don't really need a plot line when I never play a game for more than 20 minutes anyway. Maybe I'm just lame, but I'd buy it for sp (again).

I agree with you. SP is good, you just have to put in as many bots as you can handle, get the 64 player modded maps, and you've got yourself one hell of a fun SP game.

I see what you mean but most peolple dont play bf2 for a story line. Nothing wrong with firing up a short game, but most people like Multi for the better (usually) players. Sometimes bots are stupid.

I found the single player is very weak compared to online. Cons: Weak enemy AI; Lack of teamwork. Pros: Good practice so total newbs like me don't embarrass ourselves right away; No lag.

There are actually a lot of custom maps that have been re-navmeshed so the bots are retarted, and they have sp capabilities (Gazala is a fav) put em on expert if you find it to easy -

the only thing single player is good for is learning the maps because you will -never- die.

Riddick has so much cursing in it I uninstalled it and threw it away. It came with my video card, so I didn't really "pay" for it. I know some poeple think I'm crazing for "throwing away a perfectly good game" but I never knew the "F word" could be used so much in one scene. The actual film was rated PG-13, you'd think they'd remember that!

Anybody know if the expansion pack adds more to the single player side? I was looking at buying it but don't want to bother if its more of the exact same.

I bought Special Forces, and didn't bother to buy Euroforces.
I still go back to playing the original BF2 (mainly Wake Island 2007). Besides, Special Forces is sorta losing popularity with the servers, and I'd guess Euro Forces will do the same.

So what about single player gameplay? Does it add any better ai or anything?

Not really, the AI is good for . . . AI :)
Sometimes they can be annoying. You'll be commanding your team and they just seem "lazy" and make you lose if you're just commanding.

One word: Ebay ;)
"Today, Johns got f*****."
Classic. But yeah the cursing was bad if that's something that bothers you.
Back to BF2, when you play online and move up the ranks you get better weapons right? I thought so but I havent played long enough myself to get anything. If so you probably can't get them in single player.

I thought about it, but couldn't do it in good conscience ;)
Oh yeah, BTW,
Battlefield 2 is such a good game, when you shoot an anti tank missle at say, a tank, it'll actually go through it and not hurt it quite often :p

for me.. any game on the pc is not worth for single player. without the multi player element it just bores me to death, thats just me though. i remember the first day i got warcraft 3 i didn't even touch singleplayer i went straight on battle.net.
