I heard they live in inexpensive neighborhoods.

Not really owned (you could've saved your tower) but still, the lady is always a nice one. It would take you at least 6 more moves to kill his king though, lady-king is always a weird ending (though bishop-knight-king is far, far worse, i managed it once.)

*edit*

wtf you guys never played chess?

So THIS is what you call gaming, hehe! Amazing win, whatever... The FPS must be out the roof though....the action, the shaders....................

I always wondered.

What level did you have the game set at, easy, hard, expert?

Tongue in cheek...........pawn in hand.

I'm very sorry but a good game of chess will beat ANY pc game out there for thrill, action or gameplay...

Oh so true.

Although there are certain games(domino's) that somedays can hold my attention better than a chess game.

Congrats on winning Oc550 seemingly like most things you do you managed to defy logic and this time you even came out ahead.

Congrats man, I'm not an advanced chess player by any means but it's definitely a hard game.

The computer should have advanced it's King when you started attacking the pawns. If it had, it would have ended up in a much better position. You're also missing a set of moves between the second and third, I assume Kf5 e4, which might help other people trying to read it.

Good job on the win, chess games can be lots of fun. I always loved playing competitively against other people.

Edit:
The computer also should have opposed your pawn advance. I just noticed his King sitting in the middle after your promotion. I can't remember with pawns are certain to win a King-pawn vs King, I think g can win though.

What level did you play the game at? What game software did you use?
I would recommend Fritz or chessmaster. The latest version of the latter can be had for $15 at BB. Then we shall see.

Clearly, the computer had no clue about the end-game. Was this a set piece position or were you completely destroyed in the middle-game/opening ?

How did the e5 pawn on the second board disappear on the third board? Your rook has not moved and neither has your king

I can see this:
1. ..e5
2 Kg4 f5

Following which black moves the king up the board. Once the d5 pawn of black moves to d4, there is a strong pawn chain. You are lost. If you begin moving your rook, black can respond in kind or advance the a5 pawn.I cannot see how board 2 became board 3

Well, in any case you took advantage of the computer's mistake. Good job! I used to be pretty decent in high school but that was a long time ago. If you really enjoy chess, pick up a book or DL a set of annotated Kasparov-Karpov world championship games. Awesome stuff!

One of the first things learnt in [Mathematical] Game Theory is that games of perfect information are perfectly solvable. Meaning that a game like chess is solvable in the sense that you could potentially write up a manual that would show you how to win every possible game you would encounter (so you would in fact, be the indisputed champion of chess). But of course, such a book would not exist (for one, there would not be enough trees and ink in the world to publish such a book).

I always thought that was interesting -- how chess is theoretically solvable but it's those rare skills like intuition, luck, experience that really determine who wins and who loses. And if you've ever wondered whether AI will overtake humans, this is one circumstance where you can probably say "no".

The possibilities are mindboggling, and all computers do is predict, they cannot improvise or create something they haven't seen yet. Thats why Deep Blue had a helluva job beating kasparov. Also:

''It should be noted that several factors weighed against Kasparov in this match. He was denied access to Deep Blue's recent games, in contrast to the computer's team that could study hundreds of Kasparov's. The relatively fast time control, lack of rest days and other match rules also favored the machine.''

Computers perform by brute force, i.e assigning points to lines of thought. Computers cannot play positional chess, nor are they smart enough to uncork novelties. If you wonder why Kasparov lost while Anand smashed several compys, it is because of purely psycological reasons. Kasparov is more of an attacking and open player. He deliberately tried to play weaker lines and was slowly overwhelmed. Anand, has been mostly an e4 player. That is what he stuck to and he ran circles around the computers in the Netherlands (Wijkan Zee, if I'm not mistaken).

I suppose thats where all the computers that were beaten by Anand were dropped off. ;)
