When I try to rais FSB past 133, or Freq. past 11.5 I have problems:
I've been trying to push my 1.4 past 1.533 for a while now, but I always lose all my stability, or crash at some point while loading windows (2K). Lots of the time I get a blue screen that says something like:
***Stop: 0000000A (289ahahgag... 4 strings on numbers+ letters) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Address 80062EDE base at 80062000, Datestamp 3a24873f - hal.dll

Anyone seen anything like this, or have any idea what that might mean or how I can overclock my system more? My computer specs are below:

I kept having that problem too, with Windows XP. The way that I fixed it was with a better heatsink/fan combo.

I too was in the mid to high 50s for Idle, and low to mid 60s with Load. Because of that, the highest I would overclock my CPU was 1266 (from 1000 MHz). If I went higher, my temps would get high like yours and I would always see that STOP error.

I got a bigger heatsink, then I added an 80mm fan to it, and now I can overclock my system to 1400 (140x10) and never go over 55 C Load. Plus, My computer is in a position where I can aim one of those box fans at it, at an angle, so it helps circulate and cool the air much more.

So basically... get the temps down, and you won't see that error anymore.

Maybe that's your chip's max. Do you recall the stepping on your T-Bird? If you really want the extra mhz, you might want to consider a volt mod. It did wonders for me!:)

Well, when I max out my voltage in the bios it gets up to 1.9 volts, which I would think would be high enough to overclock to some extent. but maybe the heat is the problem, which should be solved upon arrival of my Glaciator II.

By the way... My Voltage is set to my BIOS "default" still. Which, according to PC Alert 3 (I too have an MSI board... the MSI KT7-Turbo) my voltage is 1.720.

So again ;) get those temps down, which your new HSF WILL do, and you won't see the STOP error.

Also, use this utility: http://www.naggelgames.de/vcool/VCool.html

It will definately prolong your CPU life. It gives me an Idle temp of 27 C... when my 1 gig is OC'ed to 1400.

Yeah, I've had Vcool for a while now, and I've seen my idle temps as low as 24C with that prog! But after I run it, my system seems to encounter glitches and such.

Yeah same here. But that's because Vcool makes your Northbridge chipset (chip that coordinates RAM, IDE, PCI, AGI) "go to sleep" (or any Chipset out there). You should always expect decreased performance with it. Atleast UNTIL the chips wake up... Which wouldn't be too noticeable to Gamers. Plus, it varies, system to system. Luckily with mine, it's gravy.

Another thing... I also put an old Pentium Heatsink/Fan combo onto my Northbridge chip (the big square chip right next to the CPU, probably with a dinky heatsink on it), along with heatsink compound. That allowed me to raise my FSB to 140. I'm sure I can get further, but until I get a heatsink with atleast a Copper Base for my CPU, I won't try it.

Now that I think about it... That IRQL problem didn't go away until I addressed the Northbridge heat problem. You could buy one of those Blue Orb chipset coolers, which would help.

I'm glad I remembered about cooling your chipset... I've just been wrapped up in benchmarking and temps that I forgot I was cooling my chipset. I also asked in a post before, if chipset cooling even made a difference. After hearing lots of the main homebruthas saying it does, I tried it out. Bingo.

If you've cooled your chipset, then NM my ramblings ;) hehehe. But, that is exactly what fixed my problem.
