ok... heres what i wanna do. plug the switch into wall, then just hook both comps to it. will this work? its a college web service, and i *think* you might be able to get multiple ips. so can i just plug and go? or do i need a router/proxy. also, when i tried just putting cable from wall to switch, then one from switch to pc, it wouldnt work... any ideas why? ive run proxy w/ the pc to my mac (which is other comp i wanna get online) before, but id rather not run proxy. wouuld like just regular old both get connection type deal. so any ideas how if its possible id love you all.

You can do that.

Switch connected to the wall
Both PCs connected to the switch
but you'll need a separate IP for each computer.

Hope this helps.

ok, thats what i *thought*, however i cant get the pc to have internet acces through switch even when only itself is on it. whats the win2k version of winipcfg or whatever its called? restard comp to try and get ip, but would rather do it the easy way. also, what could be the reason that the pc couldnt get internet going through switch? it was buggin me :-( unless i accidently grabbed a cross cable. lol. i cant imagine doin that but ill try again in a bit.

You have to set the IP and the subnet mask yourself in the network properties. The gateway, dns and everything I don't think you'll need to worry about, but you can also put that in if you know them.
